Lucky lady, you're going to be loving it! Hope it comes to your house soon. I hate to think about something happening to my everyday machine, I love it so much. Sad thing is they don't make it anymore. Bought it from a lady that got it and never really used it, she liked her old Elna better. It's a Singer XL1000 with all the embroidery stuff with it, the receipt says $4100.00. Sat in her sewing room for over a year without her touching it, you're not going to believe this offered it to me for $500.00 I couldn't say yes and write the check any faster. I've never used the embroidery part of it as I bought a Brother to use and thought I'd love it. After buying all the stabilizer's and the big set of every color in the rainbow of thread, haven't used it very much either. Sure don't know what I'd replace the Singer with though, hope that's a very long time in the future. Be sure to let me know how you like it once you use it for a bit.

I've been debating whether to go ahead & order the every color in the rainbow thread set or not. I gave up my 3rd job last night, which I'd been doing every other Tuesday & they needed way more time I couldn't offer them, so I'm hoping I can pick up some embroidery work to replace that & really use this machine. I'm so excited about it that I've been watching all the videos since the man left for his trip to Denmark on Tuesday. I just talked to him & he's done with the work part of the trip & on the way to his brother's house as I'm typing this. (Yes Elisabrat & Nancia, I asked him to get that ghastly salted licorice for you both, lol.)

I can't imagine being offered such a nice machine for only $500 Jaba. I'd have snatched it up too! This machine is set up to do some quilting in the embroidery mode, so I'm going to rearrange my sewing room to where I have the open end of my table on the other end, so I can do that on smaller pieces. Of course, when it comes to full quilts, I won't even attempt it on that machine, but if it lets me do some pretty stuff for runners and car seat quilts and such, it's well worth it.

And here I sit with my 200.00 walmart special on the Brother machine. Ok I am not feeling sorry for any of you gals with all that fancy stuff. sheesh. why not post pictures so we can all drool? I am happy for you Dustysmomma. I know it takes a bit of time getting used to a new machine but once you do they are your BABIES. Heck with that big kid of yours you now own a killer machine. Back out of your sewing room. Get away from those dials. This is MINE! Enjoy!

ok the man went fishing. I go to pick him up and he has something in his hand. He says "you cant keep it because it reeks but thought you would like to see this.. he holds up an ANTELOPE LEG." I CANT KEEP IT? REALLY? OH SHOOT. OMG thankfully it reeked. The next day he goes fishing I pick him up he says back up back up! so I do he gets out of the car and picks up something holds it up its a DEER LEG. I nod he tosses it then says that one reeked too. Oh shoot. I am so thankful they reeked is all I can say. Imagine that on the living room mantel! I think something is sure hungry at the fishing hole. I hope they find a new place to eat so I don't get any treasures. That my dears is the story of the reeking legs. I will take Wallie the beaver skin anyday.

If you're going to do embroidery for other people and a lot of different things, I think you'd be much happier with a full set of colors. They do have different size sets you can choose from. Bobbin thread always stays the same. One tip I've learned and I did it from the start, use a good stabilizer, not that expensive and well worth the money. You can really tell the difference in a piece when someone doesn't. I don't like the look of all those puckers around the design. It will be interesting and fun to see some of your creations.

Linda, I thought your DH was supposed to be fishing...not looking through the woods for left-over's from some critter's lunch. Glad they aren't on your mantle! My machine is in the shop getting cleaned so I am having semi-withdrawals. I have just 5 more peaks and 4 valleys to go on the binding on my GFG quilt and then the long straight side and it will be almost finished. Just have to get a label made. I will be so glad to have it done as it has been a WIP since 2011 when my friend sent the top, batting and backing. Hopefully, if I get a good start on my granddaughter's graduation quilt, I can sign up for the next swap. Fingers crossed! D'sM, I am looking forward to a picture of your new machine, too.

I wish I could get off work early today! I want to go see Debbie & ask her all sorts of things about my machine! I'm thinking that I need a full set of colors as well, but having never bought embroidery thread for a machine before, I know nothing about it. I asked to join the Viking Topaz group on Yahoo, hoping to get to ask some question from other owners of the same machine before I got mine so I could be prepared supply-wise, but it's been 6 days now and my request is still pending. :( I'm not sure which area would be appropriate to post that in here either....(insert sigh here as I wobble off back to work)

oh oh I would get ten of each! lol.. thread? I have been so fortunate not to have had to buy thread in a long while. Jaba had a box of little spools, medium spools even a couple LARGE ones! in every color some make only one block bobbin to top thread some several but I am almost down to one layer now. Talk about a gift. I love the thread is it Meltzer? lovely thread rarely breaks but not great for large quantity use I think cost wise if it matters. Connecting threads has a deal on cotton threads rainbow colors... so hard to decide what the need and use is. I have champagne taste and a please donate to the can budget so not the person to ask. Ask other long arm quilters and average the answer. :)
OK Jan says I should do: Fall or Halloween period. If that is good that is the next theme oh table runner goddesses. please advise :) ps I didn't get to play in the last one so this one for sure I am in straight up from the beginning. Now to get an even number of players to allow for that or to beg one of ya'all to belly up and play for two! What is the verdict on a time frame for sign ups? I was thinking ten days. Also only 6 weeks to finish so fall would not be all used up by the time we were done. I need your grand advise seriously. Please post!!!

No need to beg, I will do 2. I like Fall or Halloween vs receivers choice. Receivers choice is too wide a range.

6 weeks works........unless instead of Halloween you did winter and fall.

Wait, are we signing up here? I'm confused. Football is fall, right? Ooh, or I might need a round one for my little table I sit by on the porch to hand out Halloween candy, if football doesn't work. The man asked me if I was trying to cover every surface in the house with quilts the other day when swaps for them were mentioned. When I get the new machine, he's going to ask the same thing about embroidery, lol!

The only local person I know who does embroidery said that she had trouble with some thread she got & the guy at the sewing center told her to use polyester & she wouldn't have that problem. More investigating over the weekend, but for now, it's off to the movies. Dusty picked this time, so I'm being dragged to watch Pacific Rim. Not sure how I feel about that just now, but at least it's time he wants to spend with me, so I'll take it!

no we are not signing up, I was just responding to Brat since she didn't get one with this swap......so if she doesnt have a partner for the next on I am willing to make 2 if she has not partner.

You will have fun with your new baby. I recommend either poly or rayon thread for the embroidery. Each machine likes differnt makers. I use either Sullk poly/rayon or Maderia poly/rayon depending on what I am making.

Buying all the threads can cost a pretty penny..........may have to buy them alittle slow.
