And those links can be a good leaping point for funky. Most are using there scraps so that will make it fun.

Crafty3790 01-24-2012 03:37 PM

Right now we have 20 people signed up.

Thanks Craftsy! I just don't want to make it too hard on you to try and keep it all straight...I am fine to just make funky houses, birdhouses, etc. Or some of each...I only said I would like to make the ones I trade and get into a neighborhood/town. I love all the ideas that have been posted! While I do live in the country, the city closest to me has all kinds of houses, wonky and traditional (actually some that are wonky maybe aren't supposed to be, but have ended up that way...lol), quilt shops, dog houses, bird houses, school houses, etc..so for me I would love a big variety...and then I want to try and make them into some kind of neighborhood/town theme. But....I didn't mean to cause confusion about the swap, I was only meaning to ask if putting in a schoolhouse would be ok, just like the suggestion of a quilt shop...So, Craftsy, I am fine with however you do it, its already a lot of work to organize a swap, and I just appreciate you and all the others who do them for us! If I can get the picture to post, I will post a pic of the quilt top I made that has the schoolhouse in it...and actually I am going to add a little outhouse over beside it, just because I like the idea...I am thinking I can probably make a wonky schoolhouse even, sometimes its harder to keep all the lines straight anyways, eh?..:)
Regards to all,
Kif

Crafty3790 01-24-2012 05:18 PM

I really don't mind. If you look at the quilt top I posted on pg.5 Dottys quilt it has all kinds of houses.

QuilterMomma 01-25-2012 09:09 AM

So were we doing embroidery as well? I have a traditional embroidery pattern for the outhouse that is really pretty. I thought if I did do this swap, still thinking on time, that I could do an outhouse, quilt shoppe, traditional two story house, and then do a simple house block. Would that work?

Ooohh, I love your ideas! Maybe you and I can do a swap, eh??..:)...I just love the "quirkiness" of all the different types of houses, buildings, etc...the outhouse I have to put on my sampler quilt beside the schoolhouse is one I actually made with wooden slat fabric, I appliqued a little half moon on the door, and am going to applique it to the block. I still plan to post a pic, but am having trouble uploading pics. I have been trying to change my avatar pic, too..but since the board change every time I try to post a pic, or change my avatar, I get an "upload failed" message...have tried doing a search here to get ideas on what I am doing wrong, but not finding anything. Next time my IT guy son stops by I will have him help me..
Bye all,
Kif

I saw that pic, and love that quilt! That is one reason why I wondered about doing a mix of houses/buildings...
Thanks,
Kif

Ok, I think I actually figured out how to post pics, so here is a pic of the sampler quilt top I just finished piecing, and a close-up of the school house block...here goes:
I am going to applique the little outhouse I made over between the trees beside the schoolhouse. I am also thinking one could make the schoolhouse wonky, too...
Take care all,
Kif
PS Sorry so small, I am guess I am doing good to figure out how to even post them, let alone post them bigger..:o

Mariposa 01-25-2012 02:59 PM

Kif-your houses and such are fun! Thanks for sharing!

Difergie 01-25-2012 03:21 PM

Love the picture it's great quilter momma we are doing embroidery too. I'm finishing up my boom blocks then I'm going to concentrate on doing some blocks .

sew1096 01-27-2012 08:45 PM

I love PP'ing and the Boom 6.0 I'm in is just about over so I think I'd like to sign up for this exchange. It sounds like fun.

Crafty3790 01-28-2012 05:22 AM

We now have 22 signed up. I got some great fabric that has all windows so I'm going to use them and appliqué them to the house.

oldcatlady 01-28-2012 07:10 AM

Crafty, I passed on this when I first saw it because I'm not a fan of funky houses. Thank you so much for opening it up some to allow other houses. I really want to make a neighborhood quilt also, with outhouses, schools, churches, birdhouses, houses, firehouse, etc. I'm really excited about this swap now. Please sign me up for 4 sets! :) (if you have to throw in a funky house or two to make up 12 when you mail out, that is OK with me. Just make it easy on yourself!)

travelinggramma 01-28-2012 08:14 AM

Never thought of a firehouse - but oh so necessary in a community. Anyone found any patterns for stores, firehouses, etc. Will a tent be acceptable??I found a PP pattern for one and loved it!

rwquilts 01-28-2012 08:26 AM

It's great to see you my friend! Yea!

Hi Ronda, Good to see you too. This will be fun won't it?

Crafty3790 01-28-2012 06:11 PM

Glad to have you aboard.
As for the tent I'm thinking probably not maybe someone will want a private swap for one.

Crafty3790 01-28-2012 06:12 PM

I'm doing both funky and traditional I'm looking forward to starting them.

Crafty3790 01-28-2012 06:16 PM

We have 24 now yeah.

MaryMo 01-28-2012 07:15 PM

getting there .... we'll have 40 people soon! :D

Crafty3790 01-29-2012 08:31 AM

That would be fun.

Annaquilts 01-29-2012 08:35 AM

I really like making three of each instead of 12 all the same. It is more fun to make just a few and then be able to go on to a new pattern and set of colors. I get to do what I like best plan, pick colors and design. Sofar I have two sets of three and I plan to make 1 or 2 sets more. I already have the next desgn drawn out. Fun, fun, fun!

Crafty3790 01-29-2012 01:57 PM

I would love to see what you have. Pictures are always great for inspiration.

Annaquilts 01-30-2012 02:21 PM

I would love to post but seem inept at posting pictures since the change of the boards. I really miss sharing pictures.

I got ideas off the net. Here is one link that had wonky log cabin style houses and I made 3 using this technique.

Those are great thanks for the link.

sew1096 01-31-2012 03:14 AM

I have one set of three finished and one more out of a second set. I'm really having fun with these.

Crafty3790 01-31-2012 05:52 AM

Took a little break from working on things and made one church block.

Crafty3790 01-31-2012 01:35 PM

That's cute complete with stained windows.

maine ladybug 01-31-2012 01:41 PM

Yeah. I was trying for that effect.

Judith1005 01-31-2012 02:32 PM

oh, I love the church. I love the stained glass windows.

QuilterMomma 01-31-2012 02:36 PM

I have that brick fabric in my stash. Maybe a bank to go with that church using the bricks might be a good idea. Nice job on the church. Now, I want one of those for my village. Did you get that Crafty, mine!
