Getting very frustrated right now....UGH....I've cut my pieces so that I can make 1 block to see how it works. The measurements on Block #78 are wrong. I don't understand how to put this together. It's the rectangle size that is incorrect and I can't figure out what size to really make it. I NEED HELP!!!! And boy...are these small pieces..YIKES!!!

Sew in strips, then cut to size and assemble, that will give you more control. Also, you could sew larger strips, then cut away the excess when you piece the strips together for greater accuracy. Good luck!

MISHNJIM 03-27-2010 09:33 AM

I think I got the rectangle figured out. Now it's the middle part in between the 4 patch's. I did what I thought but once you sew it all together it does not come out to be a 5" block at all....I'm putting it away for today, I've had enough.

retrogirl02 03-29-2010 12:33 PM

Mishnjim,
I have heard that the printer settings can throw the block off. On your printed copy in the lower right hand corner, there is a line to measure accuracy. Is it 1" from the bottom of your printed page?

Excellent tip, Wilhelmina! Thanks for jumping in to help out.

I have not recieved any PMs about swappers outside of the continental U.S. If this is not the case, please PM me this week.

All my best, RETRO

MISHNJIM 03-29-2010 03:12 PM

But the pattern isn't PP. Does that still make a difference. I was reading the instructions on how to cut everything. I don't know...I'm gonna have a friend help me next week, if I can't figure it out then I won't have this one to swap. I did sign up for a PP one so hopefully that one will work out.

Thank you for your help Retro.

retrogirl02 03-29-2010 03:46 PM

You're welcome, Mishnjim. If you need to change your block, please don't stress about it. Just let me know. =)

If you would like to choose an unclaimed block the following options are available. This should help narrow your search on the sentimental stitches site.

http://sentimentalstitches.net/free-...midget-blocks/

Applique: 23, 27, 29, 37, 38, 63, 65, 66, 84, 86

Paper Piecing (pp): 3, 6, 25, 26, 31, 39, 42, 43, 46, 48, 52, 68, 69, 75, 79, 83, 85, 86

Traditional Piecing: 34, 35, 44, 49, 64, 72, 77, 85

Combination: 41, 65, 66, 73, 81

The ranking and available numbers are based on BRT's notes. Please let me know if you catch anything that needs to be altered.

HI :D I just checked this site and learned that you were the new coordinator. I am Windy Canyon and had not decided which blocks I will do yet. However, I am reviewing the blocks now and will get back within the next few days.

I wish you the best in taking this project over. Linda

retrogirl02 04-06-2010 02:59 PM

Linda (Windy Canyon),
Thanks for checking in. No rush on your choices, I'm just updating where I can for those who would like to choose blocks that haven't been claimed yet. Repeats are also acceptable since we're such a big group.
All my best,
RETRO

retrogirl02 04-07-2010 10:40 AM

abonda, thanks for checking in. The list has been updated to reflect your numbers as well. I'll continue to update the above messages as I get new info in.

Bettia 04-08-2010 12:19 PM

I so want to join this swap, just so many projects to do (like everyone else).
I thought I read somewhere that we we could make 12 of one block, that counts for 2 sets.
My question is will we get back 2 of that block or 1 of it and a different one?

Thanks

retrogirl02 04-08-2010 01:02 PM

Bettia, it should not be a problem to make 12 of one block as long as it's not a popular one. I think most people on the thread are looking for variety.

Bettia 04-09-2010 08:18 AM

Retro,
You bet. I don't know how many I want to do right now, but they all would be different than the ones someone else is making. I too, would like to receive all different blocks back.
My choice of blocks will be chosen from these #'s;
22, 34, 53, 59, 71, 82.

So, the answer to my question is that if I make 12 of one block I would get back 2 different blocks. Is this correct?
Thank you.

LovingIzabella 04-09-2010 11:02 AM

Retro,
I have to limit myself down on this one so please take number 10 off the list for me. Thank you so much!
Hugs
April

retrogirl02 04-09-2010 12:37 PM

I'll update the list, LovingIzabella.

Bettia, if you are making 12 blocks, you are receiving 12 different blocks in return, not 2 sets of 6 matching.

MadeinMaine 04-09-2010 03:22 PM

Hi, Retrogirl - Could you please change my choices to #38 and #56 (not # 88). Thanks.

retrogirl02 04-09-2010 05:31 PM

absolutely, MadeinMaine...you are updated. =)

Bettia 04-10-2010 07:17 AM

that's right. don't know what i was thinking.
i don't know as i will make all of those blocks or any of them, if I do, I will be choosing from them what i will be making, so as not to make repeats.

retrogirl02 04-10-2010 05:07 PM

Bettia, not to worry. I'm sure if you were asking the question someone else was thinking it, too. I think I have a bit of spring fever, anxious to get out into the garden and may not be as descriptive as I could be.
Happy Quilting everyone!!

Hi retrogirl,

Nope, I've done 14, 15, 29, 37 and 88. I had changed my mind on doing 45.

MISHNJIM 04-11-2010 01:28 PM

Retrogrl02---Please take me off of the swap (#76 & 78). I was trying to do one of them and the instructions are wrong. I had 2 people in my quilt group try and help me and we couldn't figure it out. I have too many swaps that I have joined anyhow. Sorry.

Bettia 04-11-2010 02:22 PM

I found that on two of the ones i tried to make.
If someone can figure out on #22 how to get that last piece on the first block, let me know.
It's probably me.

ljdugas31 04-11-2010 03:44 PM

Yes i would also like to join in the fun. I'll do 1 set of #24'#70,#8,#87Thanks

Looks to me like you might need to use a Y seam to sew piece 9 on, just a guess.

A suggestion is you could try a partial seam on 8, sewing part way, join 9 to the top and center block, then go back and finish the seam where 8 and 9 are joined. Its a nice looking block!

charismah 04-11-2010 07:55 PM

I am going to bow out of this swap. I don't think I will finish my blocks in time. Sorry everyone.

Bettia 04-12-2010 10:18 AM

thank you wilhelmina

ljdugas31 04-12-2010 02:22 PM

please put me down for 1 set of 24,70,87,8 Thanks

ljdugas31 04-12-2010 02:49 PM

Yes sign me up 1 set of 24,70,87,8

retrogirl02 04-12-2010 04:01 PM

ljdugas31, I have you updated. Please refer to page 15, the section that I wrote. Some have quoted it, making it a bit confusing.

ljdugas31 04-12-2010 07:23 PM

ok block 24,70,8,87

SewExtremeSeams 04-12-2010 08:19 PM

Ok, please put me down for 10, 55, 56 and 88. I know others are doing those but hopefully, we each have different fabrics. I know on #10 I am planning to flip the dark colors to the outside corners so that will make mine a little different twist on the block.

Thanks for all of your organizing Retrogirl.

cjt_mama 04-13-2010 08:14 AM

ok..Life happened and my blocks were arguing with me anyhow lol.. I will have to bow out retro, sorry! I really love 30s prints too so hopefully something else will come up :) Good luck everyone!

fun2quilt 04-13-2010 09:38 AM

I finally finished my blocks!!!!
Now just waiting for an address to send them to...
