Here is my quilt from Lavandula....thanks so much, it is really different, love it. That card was really special, can't see much of it in the picture but handmade from a childs drawing...Thanks again.

lavandula girl 08-07-2010 06:19 AM

Glad it finally got there, Linda! Thanks again for swapping with me. :-D

Janis 08-07-2010 03:29 PM

LindaR, that's a cute little quilt you received. The fabric has interesting patterns in it and that is a neat way to quilt it, in circles. I like to see people try different things and see how they work. I like the way the lines of the different fabrics take you from the top left edge of the quilt across to the right center and back again down to the left. The white really draws your eyes that way, and the darker red takes one back to the bottom right and grounds the quilt. So neat, lavandula girl! That little quilt is a winner!!!

Brenda, you do such beautiful work with your DQ's. My daughter plays dolls with the doll quilt you made for her all the time. And I enjoy mine so much. I hope your partner posts something soon. Sometimes life gets in the way...maybe that's why it's taking a little longer for her to contact you. Big hugs!

Thank you for your concern. It all worked out. I PM'd her and she has had a very hectic August. I told her not to worry about posting, just was worried that she may not like it. She said she loved it, so now I'm a happy camper. :-) I'm so glad you and your daughter are enjoying the DQs. It was a lot of fun making them for you both. I will have to sit out August. I'm visiting my son and his family in PA for a few weeks and have no sewing accommodations. Besides, it is all I can do to work from here and still have time to enjoy my family. It will be worth the effort. Hope to be back in September. :-) I will be checking occasionally to see everyone's DQs. You are such a great partner. Whoever gets you will be thrilled. I'm still loving the DQ you sent me. It is so special! You did a beautiful job on it and some day, maybe I will try that pattern too. See, you are also an inspiration! :-) Big Hugs.

laparshall and I opened each other's packages yesterday while on the phone to each other. What a great conversation we had! And what a wonderful little quilt she made for me. She wanted to save on fabric, so blocks are only 2.5 " finished and not PP! LOL My DIL already wants it. We chose to do rwb colors.

Looks great, doesn't it!

This is the beautiful quilt that Oksewglad made for me. We had a wonderful conversation on the telephone while we did our swap. This is Gladie's Stepping Stones pattern, done is CW repo fabrics. Not sure if you can see the scalloped quilting. This is a pattern that she has created herself. I look forward to seeing Gladie's other patterns. Please let us know when you are open for business.

The back is a beautiful fabric by one of Oksewglad's favorites, Nancy Halvorson. I am not familiar with her work, but I do know that it has a rich, pretty color with wonderful angels. Her label is just tacked on in the corners so it is movable so that I will be able to use this quilt at Christmas also. Bonus: Two holidays in one. This is a very beautiful quilt and welcome addition to my collection.

Great swap partner. Thanks so much Gladie.

Oh yeah, and then there are the patriotic post cards, along with the 2" (1.5" finished) 9 patch blocks which Oksewglad has challenged me to come up with a spring quilt using them. That is going on my TO DO list now. I'll post pictures when I come up with something. Does anyone have some tweezers??. . . They are so tiny. So much fun.

Gladie, another masterpiece,x2. Lucky you, Laparshall. I am another lucky one to have one of her works of art.

Can't wait to see what you do with the 9patches.

Janis 08-08-2010 02:14 PM

These last few quilts are great treasures to be sure!!! I'm sure they are worth the wait for them. I know I'd wait patiently for one of them. But then aren't all of the little quilts done by someone else 'just for you' great quilts!!! They are all special!!!

zjsquiltymomma 08-08-2010 02:23 PM

Thank you for the kind words. I'm so glad your partner loved her quilt! Anyone would be blessed to have you for a partner. Enjoy your vacation!!

I love the fish. This is such a fun quilt.

Great little quilts. Loveing all of them.

kwiltkrazy 08-08-2010 03:54 PM

Zjs love your quilt, the pattern is a true classic, and the colors you used are so esteticly pleasing. you could say they are soothing, and fun, with the fish.

oksewglad 08-08-2010 04:49 PM

It was Linda's suggestion to make a phone call and then open the packages. Mine arrived on Thursday--oh the temptation to wait a couple of days, but I resisted until we talked. Didn't know I had that much patience. This is a great idea (phone each other) and I encourage others to try it. Thanks Linda. She's a great swapper.

Ckcowl made me a red blue, and white star-topped wall hanging, perfect edge finishing made greater as she had star edges to work with. And I made her a RBW "Fourth of July" wallhanging that was a block in a quilt Jinny Beyer designed. I called it Murphy's Star, seemed I was either cutting wrong, short fabric or sewed things together incorrectly, but I won! Both her DH and kitty said it's a keeper so it will reside in Michigan. Will get the pictures listed soon.

Wow, ck that is a really neat quilt, is the star connected to the top? I can't tell. Both top and back are great.

mcdaniel023 08-08-2010 06:36 PM

Those are both wonderful. Great job everyone.

kwiltkrazy 08-08-2010 06:49 PM

Sorry, I thought the bottom star DQ was the back, not a separate quilt from prairiekat, they are both beautiful.

Janis 08-08-2010 09:17 PM

WOW!!! Such neat quilts!!! I want one of each!!!

zjsquiltymomma 08-08-2010 09:28 PM

Wow! I love the patriotic quilts! So pretty!!

zjsquiltymomma 08-08-2010 09:31 PM

Thanks kwiltkrazy :) I try to do something new that I've never done every month. I still need to try binding a quilt. I'm too scared to try!

I know what you mean by the binding being a little intimidating, my guild taught me how to do it this way, and I just love it. And now I don't have any trouble at all after doing about 75 of them over the last 5 years I have belonged to the guild. You use 21/4" strips to the length you need, joining them together with a 45 seam, then pressing the whole thing in half, to 1 1/8 inch wide, leaving an 8" tail start sewing half way down the side, with the binding open side lining up with the raw edge of the quilt sewing a 1/4 inch seam allowance, when you come to the corner, you sew to within 1/4" of the corner, then bring your binding straight up from the corner, then fold it back dow the next side creating a nice neat 90 degree corner, and you repeat this on all corners, then stop within 12 inches of the starting point where you started sewing on your binding, then you open up your binding and cut the bottom or starting point binding into a 45degrees, then place it on top of the other binding and mark a dot on each side where the first bind ends, then come toward the first end of the binding 1/2 inch draw your 45 degree and cut it there and sew them together, works for me every time. Then you just roll it over to the other side and it falls perfectly onto the seam allowance line on the back of the quilt, then I hand stitch it down.

ladies i just pop in to see your quilts ,oh my dog very beauitful and nice pattern ideas too, wow beauitful work ladies

letsquilt 08-09-2010 03:03 AM

all the dq quilts are so pretty,I love them all.

laparshall 08-09-2010 06:04 AM

What a lot of talent. Ckcowl's star is so cool. It makes you say, "Hey! How'd you do that?" Ckcowl, Did you design the pattern yourself? Prairiekat's Murphy's Star quilt is also great. That was the pattern I was originally going to do for the July swap. I collected fabrics for it, but then changed my mind. You did a great job on it.

prairiekat 08-09-2010 05:36 PM

Thanks for the applause, my family liked it also, and I may make it for a benefit auction, if I don't spend too much time browsing. I only used one "block" of the quilt designed. but I thought it would work.

Zjsquiltymommy I hope it helps, I don't dread bindings anymore, but the more practice you get the better you will be and the more comfortable you will be with it. Best of luck in your binding endeavors.

zjsquiltymomma 08-10-2010 07:55 AM

Thanks kk :) I'm going to try it on my August DQ!

I mailed CraftyMaineMom's doll quilt to her on Monday. So far I haven't been able to post a picture of it. Maybe she'll like it well enough to post a picture when she gets it. It's different from any I've seen for July. I'm still waiting by the mail box for the one she was sending me . . .

Chele 08-11-2010 04:31 AM

I'm loving all the cute quilts! Great job everyone! Here's the gallery for July so far: http://www.flickr.com/photos/5197990...7624480580558/ Please let me know if I've missed a photo. There are still quite a few quilts on their way.

OMG we make beautiful quilts.

This is one of the nicest things you do for us Chele. Thanks a bunch, G.

Interesting how there are no two alike. I don't think I have seen any duplicates since I started swapping.

978gray 08-11-2010 12:17 PM

It came!! It came!! It came!!

Chrys has already posted a picture last week when she mailed my Doll Quilt and it arrived today.

All I can say is it is pretty in person than the picture!!!

I am so very happy!!
