I've got 2 down and 2 to go. Having way too much fun making these round mug rugs.

Lynnie25 03-29-2012 12:01 AM

I have one mugrug made, 3 more to go. I do have 2 rejects though :) they will come in handy as gifts

QuilterMomma 03-29-2012 12:45 PM

There are some pretty mug rugs here, but are we just putting in the cotton batting? Just checking so I know how to do mine correct. I have not started so no panics yet, but will be using an embroidery design to so one and thought I better check on that before complete construction is done. There are some really nice ones. Also, is it ok to copy an idea on here? I like the selvage one and I have a bag of selvages that I am giving away to a friend, but thought it might be fun to try using them. Let me know.

TiltedEars 03-29-2012 03:45 PM

I'm so excited to get to work, but too many doctor & kid-related obligations the past 2 weeks. I'm HOPING the coming week will be a bit better & I can play with the new fabric that I bought for 2 of them!!!

Quiltermama, I'd say if you want to use selvedges, go ahead and play, why not?

As far as the mug rugs themselves, and if I understand this correctly, they are to be three layers, the top, backing and batting in between, so you will need to do some quilting to hold it all together. Of course, there is no rule that says you can't do that with machine embroidery.
Hope this helps.

Donna H-M 03-29-2012 04:52 PM

I used iron on fusible batting. Ironed on the wrong side of front because I piece the back to quick turn. I was also thinking of embroidering the 4th one. Waiting for my partners name before I start it.

nancia 03-29-2012 10:57 PM

i have mine mostly finished-- but, sorry, no peeks!! i'm waiting for my partner to see them first. names will be out soon--WOO HOO!!

QuilterMomma 03-30-2012 10:29 AM

Thanks, will do then. Yes, it is just a couple of more days and the names will be out. So now I get to apply some of the new designs I just got today for this swap. That should be some fun. I am playing with applique/embroidery ideas.

Ok, are we putting on bias binding or are we turning these? Is there a preference? I noticed a variation.

nancia 03-30-2012 07:36 PM

i've turned mine because of the design. i didn't see where it was specified that they had to be one way. if mine are short of nine inches i'll have to add a thick binding, lol! do what you gotta do! LOL

Donna H-M 04-01-2012 05:48 AM

Can't wait for swap partner's name!!! Want to get going on the last one :)

I like to have a binding on my projects, so I've made mine with bindings .... and one surprise.

Go for it! Batting can be felt, flannel or batting.
:)

Abd, Thanks for doing such a fun swap.

Glad to see the partner list, now I can get started on #4 :)

QuilterMomma 04-02-2012 07:18 AM

Sent pm to my partner. Was waiting for the announcement. Someone I have not exchanged with. This should be fun.

Mamaskeeto 04-02-2012 11:40 AM

Sent a pm to my parner now I need to get busy and finish two more round mug rugs

candi 04-02-2012 03:29 PM

Woo hoo, partners are assigned!
I will be PMing my partner in a minute here.
Finished one of my four mug rugs today and despite needing some troubleshooting, I think it turned out cute. Starshine, do you want a sneak peak or surprise? Here is a hint for you on what I am doing: seasons :)

abdconsultant 04-02-2012 04:11 PM

Notice I'm the odd man out, if anyone wants to send me one i'll send one back no need to do 4. Just send me a pm. Have fun everyone!:)

starshine 04-02-2012 07:19 PM

Candi, I love the hint of seasons. Feel free to do a sneak peak. It's a surprise whether I see it here or when it comes. And I have had a hard time lately trying to do a photo on here unless I use my camera phone (and it isn't a smart phone). So let the good times ROLL!!!

candi 04-03-2012 02:51 PM

No problem starshine, I will take photos and post them if need be :)

OK, is everybody having fun??? Picked out my fabs for the other three, and I am ready to go
:)

cuppy 04-04-2012 05:13 AM

Waiting to hear from my partner, I need your address!

Cuppy

QuilterMomma 04-04-2012 08:44 AM

Not yet, I am not sewing, but at work doing tax stuff.

abdconsultant 04-04-2012 05:47 PM

Well I'm happy to say I gonna swap...Yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

starshine 04-05-2012 09:09 AM

well I am having fun and craziness. I started putting one together after signing up and got it pieced, and kept thinking of other possibilities, and started piecing a second one. After partners were assigned, started a 3rd one that I got the idea for while waiting and it seems like it would be something I think my partner would like so set that up. Still piecing the last bit of the second one, but now I can't find the first one anywhere. So is my guardian angel telling me that Candi would be happier with a different one than that first one???? Well I'll just have to go with one of the other 5 ideas I had. Anyone know where I can get some extra hours or days?

candi 04-05-2012 10:03 AM

LOL, starshine, I think your guardian angel is telling you to either get organized, or not be over organzied, depending on the whereabouts of the lost mug rug..is this under a pile of fabrics? Or is it tucked in a drawer for safe keeping? :D:D:D
And please do share if you find days with longer hours and fewer chores, lol.

abdconsultant 04-05-2012 03:02 PM

Working in circles....................................this is fun.

Donna H-M 04-10-2012 01:41 AM

Abd...they are wonderful !! All so interesting, great job :)

SewExtremeSeams 04-10-2012 03:30 AM

Abd, absolute favorite is your citris circle, love the fish and the pandas. All of your creations are great. Wow!

starshine 04-11-2012 05:51 AM

Well candi I can garuntee my GA is not suggesting I'm too organized :o. I do have a syndrome of "I'll put this where I know I can find it, only to not find it where I think I put it. Then much later finding it and thinking --oh yeah that's where it was, and remembering how I thought it was a good idea at the time. But in this case it mostly was I have to figure out what to use for batting and then getting another idea in looking at a fabric and going in that direction. Its part of my creative process --I think. Anyway I have come up with another idea that I am very tickled about and hope you enjoy it too! I think it will fit you to a T. :)

nancia 04-11-2012 06:17 AM

till waiting to hear from my swap partner. have the mug rugs ready to go. getting a little anxious, but i'm trying to be patient, just not my strong suit!:o

LOL. Well I can't wait:)
Have three of your ready..will work on the fourth this week and hoping to get them in the mail next week:)

candi 04-11-2012 07:34 AM

Abd, these are fabulous! Lovely collection.

QuilterMomma 04-11-2012 09:17 AM

So happy, have them cut out and ready to sew together. They will be a bit different I think. Used some old crocheted items for one, some beads for another, a coffee cup panel for another, and made up a unique design from a photo I saw of a quilt done by Laura Heine years ago so thought would incorporate that idea into a mug rug. Dug out my homespuns from the Buggy Barn and got to use my circle ruler that my children got me for Christmas. Now, when does lunch get here. Wish I could video this new squirrel that is coming to my office. So skiddish. It is a female. She is so afraid of the window but you can tell she wants the food that is sitting there. So cute they are. Yes, my work entertainment. Now, to get work done, darn quarterly reports. Got to be done.

MaryMo 04-11-2012 10:39 AM

OK QuilterMomma, I am awake .... old crochet, beads, coffee cup and Laura Heine sounds like a superb combination. My imagination is off and running. Does that mean I can let my creative side emerge?

QuilterMomma 04-11-2012 03:04 PM

Emerge where? Of course you can. That is the fun of it right? I have one more that you do not know about that my daughter called a UFO. It is something I made a while back that I am adding onto a mug rug for you. Will have to work on my quilting of a small item on the longarm. Should be pretty though if it does what I want it to. Then I get a UFO done for the month. Yeah! I have not done any of them because having so much fun swapping that I had to incorporate the two to accomplish both goals at once. Aint I special.

dixie_fried 04-12-2012 05:21 PM

I'm so proud!
This swap has infected my 17 year old daughter with the mug rug madness! She's been following along as I've made my rugs for this swap, helped with some design decisions, and declared at least one of my off-casts for herself. Tonight she designed her own round mug rug. It's a bookshelf with books lined up on it. They will have the titles of John Keats poems on them and just under the shelf she will embroider the last line of "Brightstar".
Talent AND brains!
(she's really pretty, too!! LOL)
