I'm so jealous! I wanted in on this swap but was so busy with life I totally forgot about it!! Maybe next time! I love the pretty one I've seen posted!! Really like the fishies! :)

QuilterMomma 04-13-2012 07:57 AM

So I want to confirm, I may have another fun idea for one that I want to try just because for my partner. The total finished size has to be 9" right? Or is the middle needs to be 9" and the frills on the outer edge do not matter and it may become 12"? Please clarify so I know how to make my idea.

MaryMo 04-13-2012 09:18 AM

I don't know what powers so, but I'd vote "go for it" .... sounds creative! Grandma's rules: it's always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. :p

The smallest diameter can be 9".

Ditto..........

QuilterMomma 04-13-2012 02:14 PM

Ok, will get a bit creative for my partner. It may be her favorite when done.

LeslieFrost 04-13-2012 08:02 PM

I'm a little slow on the beginning, partner, but I've gotten started now and I'm having a great time. At this rate, I may end up with quite a few mugrugs and will have to figure out how to figure out which ones to send you!!

ABDC: Your 'line up' is fabulous!

candi 04-14-2012 03:48 AM

Well partner, I am at quilting and finishing stages and hoping to get 'em done today and in the mail on Monday. I will try to show you a sneak peak this weekend though as I know you must be not sleeping well wondering what in the world is the crazy chick sending me :D:D:D:D

abdconsultant 04-14-2012 04:15 AM

Hey lets see some pics, it will inspire those who may be at a stand still.......................

TiltedEars 04-14-2012 04:35 PM

I have one ready for binding & another top ready to become a sandwich. Moving along. Plans in mind for #3. This is a fun swap & I think mug rugs just might be my year-end teacher gift this year.

starshine 04-14-2012 09:45 PM

Yes Candi I'm not sleeping yet, and it must be in anticipation of what you'll be sending. I'll try to post a pic of one of my rugs tomorrow. I've been working on them today to try to finish them. Still a little bit to go yet.
abd... yours are amazing. So how did you do the citrus- with paint?

so I missed this. I experimented with the round mug rug, question here. How did you keep it round? mine is so wapperjarred it isn't funny! so if you could help with this I sure would appreciate it! and thanks for your help.

I'm no expert but I'm finding that I start off larger than the 9" round and then cut it down to the prescribed size before binding. Some of my pieces have turned out a bit wonky but those are rejects for this project. Keep experimenting and you'll find what works for you.

My method is SUPER technical!
I traced a dinner plate.

(my blocks started out about 12" square...I used the plate to sort of fussy cut the part of the block I wanted to feature AFTER I quilted it.)

here's a little surprise for you. lynnie was worried she was too late to sign up to swap so i offered to swap with her if she didn't get in. when she did make it into the swap, we decided to swap anyway, and our rule was-- anything but square. i hope you'll agree these are definitely 'outside the box'! these are 3 of my mr's for lynnie, and the 4th one is a teaser for my partner who has yet to answer any of my pm's or e-mail, but i'm still hoping!

Lynnie25 04-15-2012 11:54 PM

nancia, they are gorgeous and I live just near the beach (less than 5 minutes walk) so I see these all the time when I take my walks on the beach.

Love the breakfast one too, if your partner doesn't respond to your pm.... :) :)

nancia 04-16-2012 12:29 AM

lynnie, is that a totally unveiled hint? i suppose i should let you choose in that event, but i have to give her a chance to come out and play! happy you like them!:D

dixie_fried 04-16-2012 02:42 AM

nanci-
the buttons on the octopus' tentacles? too cute! The others are great, as well!
i sure hope your partner surfaces soon...

nancia 04-16-2012 03:42 AM

thanks, dixie! these were alot of fun to do. i hope my partner surfaces soo, too. i'm sure she's doing something very important and hasn't been able to get away.....

adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

QuilterMomma 04-16-2012 07:52 AM

Oh those are so cool. I finished five mug rugs, on the sixth one. I know, we only need four to send, but did an extra to abc and then I thought I might want one. I will take the reject one, if there really is one. I was reminded by my quilting group at church that I might not want to embellish to much because you do want to set your mug on it. So, had to hold off on all the delicates I was going to add so can be used. I need to finish the special one I decided to do at the last minute, will do that while sitting at driver's traning this pm.

bearisgray 04-16-2012 10:53 AM

That looks like it was a very fun swap! Sorry I missed it.

Donna H-M 04-16-2012 11:42 AM

Oh my dixie_fried, they are just beautiful!! I love the patterns, fabrics, and quilting. You out did yourself and I hope you don't think I would dare put a mug of anything on them :)

dixie_fried 04-16-2012 11:53 AM

Thanks, Donna!
I can't wait to get them in the mail to you.

QuilterMomma 04-16-2012 12:19 PM

dixie_fried your rugs are outstanding.

Lynnie25 04-16-2012 12:55 PM

Wow, dixie, what gorgeous mug rugs and I agree, I would be hesitant to put a mug on either in case it spilled over. :)

MaryMo 04-16-2012 01:03 PM

All these mugs are super! I may have to go back to the drawing board. I especially love those sea animals and that star of Dixie_fried.

nancia 04-16-2012 01:56 PM

So will this be ok to use? I applied what I had. Mug will sit upon it comfortably. It is simple. If not, will go back to drawing board as well.

QuilterMomma 04-16-2012 02:01 PM

Yes, have hand work yet. Carpal tunnel surgery scheduled for next week so can handle doing my hand work.
