Thank you. That "housewife" block came from Quilterscache.com and is very pretty. I am thinking about using it for a couple of other blocks in the swaps.

No I wasn't being funny, sure I do the dumb mistakes of turning squares and triangles wrong but I mean where I really can't figure out how the pieces go. Will post block I made for letsew, the corner pieces on the two squares in the bottom half of square just about drove me to tears.

Kassaundra 02-04-2017 06:05 AM

If this is something new or different for you, you should see a neurologist.

Kass I don't think it's anything new. Think in the past I just avoided blocks like this knowing it would be a problem. Now with trying to branch out the patterns seem totally doable until I am actually trying to put them together. Maybe I'll try cutting out the pieces again and see what dh sees and compare it to what I see.

Kassaundra 02-04-2017 07:34 AM

I will draw out a quick line drawing of the block and put it beside what I am working on as a constant "comparison" it helps me to keep things straight.

I lay out the pieces as they should go on the table beside me, and then only pick up two at a time to sew together. Then I put them back in place on the table... until all are connected. Quilting can be hard! And some of these blocks are complicated. I do love the 'puzzle' of it, tho.

Got 4 blocks done for the March group. 2 for sewbiz and one more for JLT and Linda Dugas. I think I have 8 more to make. Im having a lot of doubts about LStews fabric :)

So if you look at the bottom where the 4 triangles come togther, that is what I have so much difficulty seeing how to piece. When I have finished the March blocks will really sit down and take a look at it. For now I think I will need to d aw out the block full size and Kay the pieces on it. Sewbiz I do try to it your way but when triangles are sewn together they aren't the same as in pucture

Love this one too!!

All2Pieces 02-04-2017 11:14 AM

Terriamn - great looking blocks. I understand how frustrated you can get. I have to cut and sew with the pattern right in front of me and still I too often get it wrong. That's one reason you'll notice I tend to do multiples of the same pattern; I'm trying to get it right. Sometimes I have to cover up the part of the block I am not working on so I can focus in on just a little section. Other times I sew patches in a different order, or way, than the directions say.

All2Pieces 02-04-2017 11:15 AM

joanelizbay - very nice!

Has anyone else seen the Day Of The Dead fabric with R2D2 and C3PO? A local WalMart had some and I cracked up! I took a photo with my phone but can't get it on the board. I know, technology challenged :)

here are a couple I got done today
Libster 2 - Ribbon Star
JLT - Dizzy Daisy

All2Pieces 02-04-2017 11:26 AM

MonaG - nice work! I am struggling for ideas with those 2 fabrics.

sewbizgirl 02-04-2017 11:49 AM

Love all the blocks you made, Joan... but especially mine! The stormtrooper quilt is going to be so nice and geeky for my geek SIL! Your other two stars are so beautiful and feminine with those gorgeous fabrics.

sewbizgirl 02-04-2017 11:56 AM

Your blocks are beautiful, Terri... You conquered that Peace and Plenty block for Lstew just fine!

I am a visual learner... can follow any pictures but too many words just run together. Most times I follow patterns by the pictures rather than the written directions.

In the photo you posted Terri, the order of construction is shown in the third illustration. It has you joining the two colors of each triangle, then joining the three triangles into a block... probably by sewing the two smaller ones together first, then joining the big triangle to it. Then you just sew the 4 blocks together. If you follow the given sewing order as in that diagram, it will be easy. You did great with the block, tho.

sewbizgirl 02-04-2017 11:58 AM

Love your blocks too, Mona. Pretty star for Libster, and Dizzy Daisy for JLT. That second one reminds me fan blades in those old round desktop fans. It's cute as it can be.

ljdugas31 02-04-2017 12:01 PM

Terrianm I love my BLOCK!!!! One of my favorite Patterns

terriamn 02-04-2017 12:06 PM

Linda I made a quilt with this pattern, it's one of my favorites also

Nice blocks, MonaG. Here's another for you - squares and oblongs.

Mona G 02-04-2017 12:29 PM

perfect JLT, thanks. I bought that center fabric for my purple border, it is one of my favorites.

joanelizbay 02-04-2017 12:34 PM

Sew your fabric was probably the easiest to match pattern and contrast fabric with. I think they look manly enough! I bet he will be very proud of it! Ive been looking and looking for a pattern/fabric for QuilterMommas orange fabric she sent..not having much luck with that one! :(

Libster 02-04-2017 02:08 PM

Love my Ribbon Star, Mona. Thank you!

Love this block, Terri, but this is Jaba's fabric.

terriamn 02-04-2017 02:31 PM

Oops sorry about that. Now I really will confuse Janice.

Really loving the blocks and patterns. Here's my contribution of tonight - Friend's Star for JLT37869. The WOW ha a very light lavender design. I understood her to say she wants to put the blocks on point, so this is what it would look like in her quilt. Hope you like it JLT.

Bootsy - Here's one for you. another "housewife" block. I'm not entirely happy with it so I may try to make another type of block in a different colorway. Hope you can use it.

Really nice blocks, A2P... It's killing me to see all these pretties and not be making any! I have gotten three quilt tops done in the last couple of days tho, quickie ones. Maybe tomorrow I'll make a block.:p

Thank you, All2, I do like it! Some of the other fabrics in the collection include lavender/purple, so this is perfect.

Just to clarify, I'm working on two different quilts. Since I've never made a quilt with blocks set on point, I thought I might try that with the taupe floral fabric quilt. But if that ends up not working out, that's okay. It's all good.

Thanks, again!

Thank you for my block, I love it. I have never seen that block. Great job

Lstew2212 02-05-2017 05:15 AM

Really nice blocks ladies. I noticed some of you using quilters cache for your blocks. I love that web site. I have made many blocks from that site. For a conversation starter, What other sites do you use? or do you use books or magazines? I also use the 100 Block magazines from Quiltmaker's.

Libster 02-05-2017 05:41 AM

I really like McCall's Quilting site for block patterns. Generation X is another one I like. I like to google "quilt block images". When I see something I like, I just draw it out and go from there. I've pretty well let all my magazine subscriptions lapse. They're just not worth the money to me anymore. It's far easier for me with the computer. I'm just beginning to dig into the quilting blogs.

After thought: Delaware BOM is another good one for blocks.

terriamn 02-05-2017 05:53 AM

I also have several books I use, Around the block, around the block Again, Once More around the Block and 501 Rotary Cut blocks

sewbizgirl 02-05-2017 06:54 AM

Jinny Beyer's site has a ton of free block patterns too.

Kassaundra 02-05-2017 07:13 AM

I mostly google search images and draw out my own patterns from the pictures.

All2Pieces 02-05-2017 07:15 AM

Jinny Beyer may be a good site for ideas, but be very careful to verify the scale/test square when printing off the designs for paper pieced. Actually, all things I've printed from the web have been a little off. Her site is the one that throws me the most, though.

Kassaundra 02-05-2017 07:24 AM

This is why I like to draw my own out. I know my seam allowance and size work and I don't have to do "scant" 1/4 inch (which I hate)
