Annie's Choice for Mona G!

Just a note to our newbies...blocks you make for the Boom should be blocks you are generally comfortable with making. I would advise against starting a paper pieced block if you've never paper pieced, or applique if you haven't practiced it or even a block with several dozen pieces if you are used to working only with more basic, classic blocks. Please be true to yourself and your skills. I'm not saying don't try something new...please do...but don't make your first attempt at a new skill using someone else's fabric. Over three years experience with this swap has proven this can go wrong in many ways. Make what you are comfortable making, especially for your first round. You'll see we are all different skill levels so please do not look at this as a competition or feel a need to keep up with the Jones's.

I got my package of fabrics from Janice! Nice packing job, Janice. Thank you! Can't wait to start playing with them.

Terri, the star points are flip and sew. |
Fabrics arrived today! Started on them and will post some pics tomorrow. So fun looking at new fabric and deciding on colors and blocks.
|
Love, love love all my blocks. Thanks everyone!!
|
jlt - Thank you very much! She'll love it. That's a great use of fussy cutting. I really like how the archer looks like he shot 2 arrows.
Everyone- That orange and purple is really looking good too. Nice blocks. |
Love those Goshen Stars!
|
Thank you. They're pretty easy to do.
|
I forgot to mention this earlier, but when you have F8 packages meant for a specific person, please mark them very well, maybe wrap an elastic band around them or put their name on a piece of tape across both sides, anything to really make them stand out. It wasn't until I was stuffing envelopes and sealing them, I discovered a few marked baggies so I was able to switch those out. I may have missed others. Some had names marked at the very top but they came out folded over and the names were not visible. With over 600 F8s to sort, I do NOT look at each and every baggie for names. Please make it very difficult for me to miss! Thanks!

Received my package last night. Will get on them just after my quilt show entry is done.

As well as finishing my 16 blocks for my local swap, I made another block for myself... or rather, my son in law's Storm Trooper quilt. By the way... I can't remember if I asked for scraps back, but if you have any storm trooper fabric left over I would love to get it back. I had another awesome idea for a block but don't have any more of this fabric.
This is the "rainbow" block pattern from Jinny Beyer's site, (tho obviously I didn't use rainbow fabrics). |
Hmmm... I deleted the photo without the applique in the center and it still showed up as an attachment. Strange.
|
Sewbizgirl - that (rainbow) block is awesome! Do you know which red fabric you are using? Are you at all concerned with our reds clashing? I have a lot of different reds in my stash and I keep changing my mind on which one to use. And, yes, I will send you the scraps back.

Other than cutting off "Sagittarius", I was happy with it. Will be sending you back what's leftover ... not enough for another pinwheel block, but still a fairly good size scrap.

Nice blocks Jaba.
Sewbiz, it seems like such a little thing the fussy cut center, but it make such a difference I think. |
Beautiful blocks, Jaba... just like your work always is.
jlt, not worried about reds clashing. Anything but an orangey red will be great. Like the red in the print... You'll see we get all different shades of our chosen colors, and some different interpretations of what a certain color is, but it all comes together in the end because our focus fabric ties it all together. |

So Libster, here is the Grinchy Heart I promised to make for you:
Funny story... I was nearly done piecing the first half of the block when I noticed I hadn't used any of the green. Then I realized it was a green FRIXION that I had marked the pattern with, and a regular orange marker. With the first hot press, all the green disappeared off the pattern! DUH. So I had pieced in cream where the greens should have been. So... I made three half hearts today, :D. |

This one is for: JLT37869. It's a "Pinwheel". Hope you like it. That dusty pink is so pretty.

I am loving all the blocks so far. Great job ladies and beautiful work. I'm not going to sew tonight, As I had a long and stressful day at work. I'm going to sit and read and relax. Good Night.
|
Holy cow Libster my eyes are still going in circles. Wow
|
Libster, great blocks! You had a busy day sewing. They are all so pretty.
|
Jaba - great blocks! (Mine are the prettiest LOL ) Thanks for the nice fussy cutting. I agree, it does add so much to the design.
Libster - Good use of that blue wavy fabric. We will all need eye exams after working with it. Did your eyes get a rest working on Bootsy's fabric? Maybe my eyes need one, but the photo for JLT looks lime green to me, not a dusty pink around. |
Terri, my eyes are still going round too! That fabric is a lulu. LOL I did work on Bootsy' block next so I could focus again. You've got movement, that's for sure! I can't wait to see more blocks from this fabric.
All2Pieces, the background under the lime paisleys is a dusty pink. This fabric looks so soft and romantic to me. Sewbiz, thanks. |
