*raising my hand*.. I've got a question. Will we get any ideas to what the person likes/dislikes?

Reason I ask is that if you were to make a Christmas themed one and used Santa ans someone didn't like Santa, that might not be such a good thing to do.

Chele 10-21-2009 03:33 PM

I can answer that question tuesey! It's sender's choice this time around. If Santa is what you choose, I bet your recipient will love what you make. Even if they've never known Santa! That's what's so neat about this group! I encourage all of you to make a quilt you think would be fun to make. There are no agendas, requirements, etc. Just close your eyes and create. Let that artist out! Here's your chance to try new techniques, not be perfect, mismatch colors, screw up points and seams, etc. Anything goes, swappers. Just create and have fun. Use a pattern or wing it. I will guarantee your quilt will be loved!

sandpat 10-21-2009 03:48 PM

That is a huge list and growing, I see! The Oct. was my first and I had a blast making my little quilt and now I'm pacing back and forth in front of the mailbox...do expect anything other than a quilt??? No....I just can't wait to pet my new baby quilt! No worries about what you do or don't send or what you can or can't do...just have fun and play with us!!

tuesy 10-21-2009 04:41 PM

Thank you Chele.. I'm already looking for a pattern to make.. found one that I'm thinking of incorporating into something else..

Janis 10-21-2009 06:56 PM

This is going to be so much fun. I can't wait to get started. When do the quilts need to be sent by?

Anyone who doesn't want to get seasonally-themed items probably wouldn't play in this one. Even I am thinking about putting a little sparkle in my quilty.

blueribbontoes 10-21-2009 07:14 PM

Chele, do you have me down for one or two? (I was reading your list, and didn't want to fudge up your numbers. If it is easier that I just do one, I can wait for the next doll quilt swap!)

That's the spirit Mad! We'll have you ho-ho-hoing in no time! :D

Ninnie 10-22-2009 03:04 AM

I have been in on these since the first, and I can say that Just receiving a doll quilt is enough. they are all different, and I love each and everyone. the talent here and the creativity always amazes me. I am in the process of making a wall in my sewing room of just these beauties.
The first one , I was so scared, and worried over it for weeks
So, for all you new ones, I can assure that whatever you make , It will be just right, and whoever receives it will love and cherish it. These are a great way to use up scraps, and those small pieces of batting that we tend to collect. And I can't wait to see who I get this time. So, I now need to get the juices flowing and come up with a idea!!! :D :D

sandpat 10-22-2009 05:30 AM

Hee heee hee...or should I say Ho..HO..HO! I started on mine last night! Now who will my victim...oops...I mean partner be????

Janis 10-22-2009 06:25 AM

Thank you ninnie, for saying that. The oct exchange is my first, and I am glad that you all welcome quilters at all levels. This is such a nice quiting group. I'm proud and happy to be in it. Thanks for saying that just the quilt is enough. That helps us beginners a lot. The ones of you that have known each other know what others like as to colors, items, etc. We newbees don't really know anyone's tastes and are more hesitant as to know what else to send.

omak 10-22-2009 06:42 AM

If you go to the top of this page, you will see the title, and then two lines of words that you can click on to find out all sorts of things.
I clicked on search and typed in my Omak name ... I do believe every comment I have ever typed has appeared ... so, if I don't know someone, obviously, <g> I am going to do some research using that handy dandy search button the Administrator so thoughtfully provided ...
I may have never typed to you during your time here, but I'll bet I won't have to read very many pages before I have enough clues to make you think I have known you for most of my life!

Where there is a will, there is a way 8)

I actually had a picture of a Green Circle and HO! HO! HO! with a big red slash through it in my office. When I was promoted, I was told that I needed to "ease up" on the Christmas Spirit.

*LOL* No Mad, you'd have to live here in I Da Ho before you have to start looking for a street corner!.. I have mine covered!!

Thanks omak, I'm learning more about this boad all the time. I've never been on a chat line before, and am learning somewhat by trial and error how to get around here. Are there any written instructions telling about everything I need to know to navigate? I do know everyone seems nice and mostly positive. I've not read many if any bad remarks about anything here.

omak 10-22-2009 02:03 PM

I am sure I don't know all there is to know, but I have gone into live chat many times and asked my next question and there was almost always someone in there who could tell me how to do what I wanted to get done, whether it was navigating this site or working on a quilt - - or even pet tips! ... If you go up to the top of this thread, where it says
"Quilting Forum -> Member Swaps and Round/Row Robins"
Put your mouse on the words Quilting Forum, click, and it will take you to the main board - - like a site map. For example, click on Pictures. You will be taken to a page with threads to look at ... the very FIRST post is from the Administrator telling you how to participate in that category.
If all else fails, PM me by clicking on my name and type in what you are seeking to know, and we can have an adventure together, if I don't already know how to do what it is you are trying to accomplish.

Janis 10-22-2009 03:07 PM

Thanks Omak, I have gone to that main page, but I don't think I knew how I got there. Mostly I post notes on what is already topics. I did post one new topic ionce, on a web site I liked. I don't know if anyone read it but one other friend that I e-mailed about it. I'm learning fast, and getting faster at typing, but hit the wrong key too much. Why do I hit Ll instead of S and get = instead of backspace??? Just not keeping my fingers right, I guess.
I am so excited about these doll quilt exchanges. I took 2 classes on doll quilts at Quilter's Hall of Fame in July, and am really interested in them. Maybe it's because I never out grew my love of dolls. I now have 3 GDs, so I can make dolls, doll clothes, etc as they get older. I've got time, as Lauren is 3, and the twins are 9 mo.

omak 10-22-2009 09:09 PM

I hear you Janis ... sometimes, I do more good things by accident than if I actually taken time to plan it <g>
I am still into dolls, also, though I have no place to set them up, so they are living in boxes and suitcases ... maybe someday, or else, some other little girl is going to have a really good time with her new babies!
I think you will be well-satisfied with the DQ swap ... and, getting to know all these nice people involved is an added benefit.

blueribbontoes 10-23-2009 04:13 AM

I'm doing the doll swap for the first time, and am so glad that everyone is so welcoming to beginner quilters. I am doing the best I can, but I would hate if anyone was disappointed if it wasn't "professional" quality. All of your words of encouragement has really helped me take a chance on this current doll quilt- I am experimenting and having a blast!

Nancy in Louisiana 10-23-2009 08:39 AM

New to swaps, as well -- but this sounds like a great place to start. Having two granddaughters, I need to get busy with doll blankets -- and this will be a great beginning. Thanx for organizing this, will pm you now.

swimer girl 10-23-2009 04:46 PM

Chele...I just PM'd you with my name and address I forgot to say I could mail internationally if you need more people to do that...thanks Swimmer Girl

amma 10-23-2009 05:35 PM

I am so excited over this swap!! I got the template today that I was looking for...and now on to making the quilt :D :D :D

I love the variety of the quilts that are exchanged...I can't wait to keep adding to the two I have now on my sewing room wall...

I look at these quilts in this manner...someone took many hours to make me something special...all I see is that, not a missed point or a crooked seam...I see a beautiful quilt on my wall made lovingly by a member of my quilting family 8) 8) 8)

charismah 10-23-2009 08:20 PM

I would love to join this......sent my PM already.

Question:
Do we actually use these as doll quilts? Or do we hang these on walls?

Rhonda 10-23-2009 08:41 PM

To all who are new or less experienced quilters. This is just my opinion but I know a lot of our quilters feel the same that the Doll Quilt Swaps are not about what talent or skills you have but a time to have fun and exchange a little bit of ourselves with each other so we get to know one another better. I don't believe anyone is going to be disappointed as we all appreciate the time and effort that goes into these little beauties. A simple quilt is just as beautiful as one that is more intricate. It is a joy to share our love of quilting and we all have been at the beginning and have made and still making our share of mistakes. So just relax and enjoy the process and make new friends and deepen friendships!! It is just plain fun to make and anticipate these quilts!! As a 30 yr quilter I learn from everyone no matter their skill level. It might be a new way to look at fabric choices or it might be a technique I haven't tried yet. So just have fun with this swap and enjoy!

nellie 10-23-2009 10:10 PM

PV this one is secret and we won't have partners. Chele will mix it all up and let each one know by PM who we are sending to. No hints as you won't know who has your name and they won't know who you have.

Your secret partner will be PM'd to you on Sunday, November 1. KEEP IT A SECRET! You can talk about your doll quilts and post progress pictures if you like, but do not reveal who you are making a quilt for. It should be a surprise for everyone!

We're up to 60 swappers now! The more the merrier! Sign up closes Saturday, October 31. If you would like to join us, reply to this thread or PM me with your address.

swimer girl 10-25-2009 03:50 PM

Hi chele...hate to be a pest but I accidentally hit the wrong place to go to the web site and so now I won't receive any more infos on the Nov/Dec doll quilt swap....and of course I do want them.

So do you know how I can undo that?....thanks Swimmer Girl

omak 10-25-2009 03:53 PM

Go to the bottom of this page, left hand side, you will see words
"Watch this topic"
Of course, having left a message, you will receive the necessary email to receive further notification ... but, should you ever need to watch a topic, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on "watch this topic" and you will be able to receive email notifications until you finally click on "unwatch this topic" ...
does that help?

Iluv2quilt 10-25-2009 06:00 PM

Hi - Please sign me up for the Nov/Dec swap. Do you need me to pm you my addy?

wvdek 10-25-2009 06:28 PM

Can't find my name, Chele. Please add me if not already on here.

I was looking on another site at Doll Quilts, and saw how some of them are displayed. I would love a wall with doll quilt's hung in a collage style all over it.

This is my third doll quilt swap and I am more excited than the first time. Thanks, Chele.
