I check what my partner liked and decided to do a winter like piece in her colors starting with a pattern I wanted to try for years. I am almost finished just have to do the embellishments and binding. Moosegirl

NiceNCLady 11-02-2009 10:50 AM

I'm not doing Christmas either. I'm trying to do what my partner said they liked.

Quilt4u 11-02-2009 10:57 AM

Done with the top. Now I stared the hand quilting.

Ooohh! Stinkadena! I know it well, we lived there when we first moved to Houston. One of these days we'll have to meet at Monument Inn for dinner!

And you nailed it with Labzilla and the pot roast! ROFL!

I have never ate there. That would be fun, we will have to do that one day. I do love to go crabbing across the street at the Battleship lol.

quiltease 11-04-2009 04:58 AM

This is my first swap and I have a question. You're talking about likes and dislikes of the person you're sending to. Other than on their member page, how do you know what they like? Do you scroll through past messages? Can I just wing it and cross my fingers??? And how are so many of you FINISHED already?? I JUST decided what to do. Haven't even bought fabric yet!!!
bev. :]

Darlene 11-04-2009 05:03 AM

You can do anything you want to do for your partner. I couldn't begin to guess what my lady like or dislikes. But I am not doing a seasonal quilt. That is my only clue.

STAR 11-04-2009 05:03 AM

Bev- you can make whatever you want!! Whoever gets it will love it! this swap being secret is a little harder to ask likes and dislikes. I would read past posts by the person to help you out or ask someone else by pm if they know anything about that person. but don't worry about it. :D Whatever you decide will be great

tlrnhi 11-04-2009 05:04 AM

I'm thinking the same thing. Isn't this one supposed to be a surprise????

k3n 11-04-2009 05:20 AM

I think it's great to get quilts that I would never think of making myself - to me, that's part of the fun! But that doesn't mean I expect my person to go trawling through all my posts to make sure they're doing something I WOULDN'T do!

quiltease 11-04-2009 05:23 AM

Thanks everyone! I feel better now. :D
bev.

tlrnhi 11-04-2009 05:30 AM

I love all the little quilts I get! Each and every one of them!!!

craftiladi 11-04-2009 08:55 AM

Bev.....I had already started my project before we recieved our partners name, then after reading the bio on that person I had decided to change my design-yes so wish I would have waited to start. I so wanted my gift to match my partner likes but just learned I have company coming for thanksgiving I had no clue and a few other things have suddenly come up so i think for time sake I am going to stick w/ what i started and just cross my fingers its liked...I keep reminding myself this is supposed to be fun not stressful.

Nancy in Louisiana 11-04-2009 09:02 AM

I'd rather get something the "giver" likes rather than what they think I would like -- afterall, this is about getting to know each other. I can make what I like anytime -- I'd rather see someone else's perspective. That's where the fun and surprise come in. It's supposed to be fun. Believe me -- if you like it, than I will for sure. It's a gift of your time and self.

Quilt4u 11-04-2009 09:21 AM

I love to be surprised . I think the quilter should make what they want to that way I get a part of them.

amma 11-04-2009 09:34 AM

I have been tickled to death over each quilt that I have received... Mine are going to be hanging in my sewing room once it is all put together!!! The different styles, fabrics, colors, patterns, techniques....what great inspirations to be able to gaze at :D :D :D AND that will be the place where I spend most of my day...so I will get to enjoy them there every day 8) 8) 8)

charismah 11-04-2009 11:59 AM

I am so excited to start my first doll quilt! I just did a few of my squares and I am not going to tell what it will be BUT...unlike some of the others..I could not resist Christmas and I think my partner..celebrates..so it will be great! I will make sure my partner has it by Christmas as well!
I hope you are all having a great day!

Gwyn 11-04-2009 12:50 PM

Please allow me to join in the fun if I'm not to late. I would like to only make one traditional doll. Thanks, Gwyn

Gwyn 11-04-2009 12:52 PM

E scuse me    I thought it said the Doll swap, not the doll quilt swap. I already have my partner and everything for the doll quilt swap.  Gwyn

It's OK. I have you added to the doll swap.

blueribbontoes 11-04-2009 06:11 PM

So, when will we open our packages? Will we have an online party or whenever we get them?

I would love love love anything someone choses to send me! With all this discussion on whether to make anything or a specific something made with me in mind- I thought I would throw that out there. (Although I do love birds. )

This is such a fun swap! I am sending my parters package out soon, I am adding treats.

blueribbontoes 11-04-2009 06:14 PM

Partner's** I can spell! Lol!

auntshamaine 11-04-2009 06:39 PM

I only swapped last month, but I enjoyed it so much. I !!NEVER!! would have been able to do what my partner did. So I am thrilled to have something that is her taste and ideas. I am so easy to please, as long as someone "thought" about it and made it for little ole me....I will be thrilled.
I will say that I love any and all of it, but if my partner happens to want to do a Christmas quilt that is fine by me too. I may not have it out long in the Living Room, but it will hang in my qulting room all year. So seasonal doesn't matter.....smiles

Thanks so much for everyone just being so wonderful. No one needs to stress about it in this loving group....
Tracy

omak 11-04-2009 06:55 PM

I JUST got an idea!
There are two sides to the quilt!
I can make two little quilts and put one on each side!
Thank you all for your input :!: :!:
didn't know I was looking, did you?????? ROFLOL

charismah 11-04-2009 07:01 PM

Are we going to post pictures before we send them or do we post pictures after we get them?
I just don't know the rules..and I guess it wouldn't matter if we posted ahead of time because no one knows who goes where..but don't want to jump the gun at all.....but i have mine done and I will mail it out this week sometime..I just couldn't wait to try out a doll quilt..I thought I would start it today and then work on it over time......BAHAHAHAHAHA! I finished it because I needed to see how it would turn out...

omak 11-04-2009 07:04 PM

overachiever! LOL
I have learned to take a picture of the quilt before it leaves in case the recipient doesn't have the tools to post a picture. But, I think we have to wait until January 1 to post pictures ... cuz nobody gets to open their quilts until I get mine 8)

gaigai 11-04-2009 09:24 PM

When we send our DQ to our partner, do we let them know who it's from, or are we still supposed to remain anonymous? As if we couldn't tell where most of them are from!

omak 11-04-2009 09:51 PM

The answer person (self-appointed, since Chele hasn't stopped me, yet <g>) has not a smart remark to offer, gaigai <wave>.
what an interesting question!

Chele 11-05-2009 05:19 AM

Do take pictures of your quilts before you send them if you have a camera and in case your partner doesn't. And if you want, you can post them too since no one will know who is getting your quilt. Or you can leave it a surprise for everyone until it's received. It's up to you. I do want to see pictures of everyone's creations though. That's the BEST part!

Hmmm...I never thought about anonymous givers. I was planning to reveal my identity to my partner. I'll leave that up to your sneaky (or unsneaky) selves. Anonymous partners might be a neat theme for an upcoming swap. You would have to guess who made you the quilt!

Esqmommy 11-05-2009 06:20 AM

But we can open 'em right away...correct?

omak 11-05-2009 06:34 AM

NO! You have to wait until I open MINE! LOL

Chele 11-05-2009 06:35 AM

Open away! Just try to stop me! I have not a patient bone in my body!

omak 11-05-2009 07:29 AM

patience, grasshopper, patience! And, RIGHT NOW! LOL

disclaimer: Listen to the list mom (she knows better than your overbearing big sister, or bratty little one!) Although, once in awhile, I do know what I am talking about! 8)

PamH 11-05-2009 04:47 PM

I hope my doll quilt sender puts a note in to let me so I will know who to thank.

I was in a secret santa swap on here a few years ago and never did find out who sent my gift. I have always wanted to say thank you.

craftiladi 11-05-2009 05:50 PM

Ok I am almost done w/ my doll swap quilt, thats if I don't decide to change it again.....I am actually having fun teaching myself some new things w/ this swap so for that i have to thank our host mama.
I will be sending a lil note of my id...
dee

Ms Grace 11-05-2009 06:58 PM

I'm going to enclose a note with mine also.
It should be mailed out next week.
I'm hoping to know who my doll quilt is from also, so I can thank them.
Can't wait to get it. :D
