With swaps what copyright restrictions on patterns would apply?

Rhonda 10-27-2012 08:25 PM

Basically if you use a pattern that you didn't create then give credit to the designer who did create the pattern.

It is also not allowed to post a pic of a published pattern. As in a picture of a magazine article cannot be posted on here. Or any pics out of a quilt book you bought can not be posted online. It is against the copyright rules.

But you can post pics of your fabrics and your progress. You can post any drawings you might make in the process of creating your wall hanging

nancia 10-27-2012 08:38 PM

and you can post what you've made. i've been very careful to mention that the original designs for my blocks were created by helene knott. the fabric choices are mine.:)

SewExtremeSeams 10-28-2012 08:22 PM

Thanks Rhonda and Nancia. Just needed some clarification. :)

Elisabrat 10-29-2012 08:36 AM

I am thinking of using easter fabrics as my theme but then what if I get someone who does not like easter? so maybe just easter colors? and is that pastel easter or bold bright easter colors.. all too confusing its early enough to do a St patricks color hanging so many options. I am the holiday queen (self proclaimed so dont even think of jumping into my thrown) so I tend to think holidays vs seasons. what say everyone to a specific holiday theme or is it better to skip that? now I am worried. oh dear ... not really I don't worry to much about things like this. (sometimes though I might)

I was thinking of Easter also. Love holiday wall hangings. But I think I'm going with spring/spring fabric colors. By the end of Feb. we will all be thinking of spring and what it will bring. It was 28` here this morning with a high of 35`. No wonder I have a fire in the fireplace and warm clothes on.

Not sure yet, Rhonda.

JuneBillie 10-30-2012 08:43 AM

Thinking of both Spring and Easter will help during the cold wintery days ahead.

Lynnie25 10-30-2012 12:15 PM

This looks like another fun swap to do. Put me on the list Ronda and I can do 'international' - oh wait I am international :) Sending you a PM

MaryMo 10-30-2012 06:12 PM

I am interested in signing up but was wondering about building on or embellishing quilt blocks not used in another quilting project. Guess I'll have to get it together and post a picture.

Rhonda 10-30-2012 06:24 PM

Mary this is an anything goes swap so whatever you decide to do is just fine! So do you want me to add you to the list?

Chigger Holler Quilter 10-31-2012 05:53 AM

I think January will be a great time to make a new wall hanging! So.....I'm in and looking forward to this one. I've made and exchanged doll quilts before and always seem to have to cut down the pattern size. This will give me the freedom to make the 'whole thing' and I'm lovin' it!

Yes, Rhonda, add me to the list. I am looking forward to this creative and fun project!

QuilterMomma 10-31-2012 09:36 AM

This is going to be a fun swap. So glad I am finishing up the first one so I can get busy on more fun.

Just so everyone knows there is no end to the sign up!! If you aren't sure and want to wait you surely can. As long as you have a wall hanging ready to send by the mailing date you can join at any time. The more the merrier!!

JuneBillie 11-02-2012 12:36 AM

I just happened to look back at the first post of Rhonda's, and it doesn't say how many blocks this time. I guess it's up to us.

Rhonda 11-02-2012 12:50 AM

Yes this one is no limits. I posted it as "a wall hanging of your choice." I intended to put Anything Goes in the description but forgot to. So use your imagination!! Any style or technique you like.

Elisabrat 11-02-2012 05:34 AM

Has anyone started on theirs? any fabrics picked out yet? show us if you have even one central fabric .. curiosity is killing me as I know some of you are soo fast at saying this design this color way .. me it takes me for ever to decide what fabrics are just right. Slower than molasses on this stuff. I think today I will go pull one main piece and that will be what I work around. I have to use what is in stock so hopefully it will be perfect for the season and for my mystery partner!

JuneBillie 11-02-2012 02:06 PM

Elisa, I am like you, and trying to pick my brain to see where my imagination takes me.

QuilterMomma 11-05-2012 03:59 PM

Hmmm, so many options. So many directions, do I get it done for a UFO, or stay with my plan of something different. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm so many choices now.

Elisabrat 11-06-2012 07:41 AM

I am going spring/easter so I guess we have to let Rhonda know if you celebrate the holiday or not so the wall hangings will go to the appropriate people? I am thinking bunnies and chickies and eggs.. that is as far as I got.. the other option is all greens and whites for St. Patricks day, it is however pretty green in the reading when you stand back and that color way goes with well only so many homes.. I have a couple i use on my table and LOVE but heck I love holidays.

Rhonda 11-06-2012 09:47 AM

Linda I think you will be okay with a spring theme. Everyone likes spring and bunnies etc. I would only ask for preferences if it were a religious theme. Thanks for thinking of it being an issue tho. Makes it more comfortable when people are willing to make sure the recipient's feelings are considered.

Elisabrat 11-11-2012 07:00 AM

COOL I am going with bunnies. Final offer. They are laying in grass those little guys its a vintage piece of fabric probably oh 10 plus years old if not more. I think its a good launching point. My fabric selection was donated to me and I find I have to use creative license with these things. Some kill me like the 10 plus yards of different bee fabric . blick bees? really? lucky for the boom swap everyone made it for me to gift back to the person who gave it to me lol everyone wins. love you guys truly I do! Now bunnies.. question are you making your wall quilt into say a pattern like example only bunnies in basket big sun up left corner, eggs hiding in bushes? or are you making five different sizes ohio stars? what do you think you might do? do you hang your wall quilts up or use them over say a chair or table? best way for me to figure out what the average person playing is going to use these marvelous bunnies for lol.. my luck someone with bunny phobia (egad is there such a thing?) ends up with my bunnies. oh oh I just had a good idea. tulip blocks around the edges oh oh great idea. then one center block that is .. something. it was a short idea sorry guys.

JuneBillie 11-11-2012 02:00 PM

Elisabrat it sounds great. Bunnies/tulips so nice. I still am pondering over mine. Mine will probably be springish. Is that a word? :D

Elisabrat 11-11-2012 11:31 PM

yuppers girl that could be a word

Elisabrat 11-18-2012 06:06 AM

hey happy thanksgiving everyone. I am not having a traditional one this year we will do it at Christmas the kids are not coming so its a taco night at the brat cabin. was really looking forward to that cranberry relish too. shooot!

Elisabrat 11-20-2012 05:20 AM

IS EVERYONE HIDING? I know the swap is a few months down the road but this is one silent group. how about what you might like to receive? the wall hanging is due end of Feb. so your thinking spring at this point. what would you love to see color wise or perhaps fabrics? do you prefer only Amish or maybe love modern novelty prints or really dont care for novelty prints/ it would be interesting to learn what everyone likes. I love novelty prints for things like this. I cant use them much in people quilts (baby maybe) but in things like this its a chance to play with fun fabrics. I love florals and seasonal fabrics too. Not much into batiks but know they have a purpose that works marvelously when you need one. whats your fabric "quilty' pleasure?

LoupEsprit 11-20-2012 10:48 AM

I'm considering this one seriously, but I need to finish a few projects first and see where I'm at...

Rhonda 11-20-2012 10:55 AM

You have lots of time to jump in! Would love to have you play!

Rhonda 11-20-2012 10:55 AM

We need pictures people! Maybe some pics of the pattern you are thinking of doing or the fabrics you are debating on using? Any ideas flowing yet?

Lynnie25 11-20-2012 12:31 PM

I have a couple of ideas swimming around in my head but haven't had time to pull out fabrics or totally decide on a pattern yet. Will see what I can do this week

LoupEsprit 11-20-2012 12:35 PM

If I decide to do this one, I'll have to buy more fabric. I'm still trying to build a stash...

BUT I'm learning how! Always buy plenty more than you need!!

QuilterMomma 11-20-2012 04:22 PM

That does work to a point, but be sure it is what you want extra of.

Personally, I like to build up with tone on tones. I find I always need those and never have enough of them. Also, Reds are a bugger to match so when buying red, that is one I purchase extra of, as well as black. Just a thought if you are starting. Also, those nice little fat quarter bundles are always a treat to have so you can accumulate different fabrics in your stash. Have fun building that stash girl.
