Hi Lestrong601- glad to "see" you. I have been fuddling around and think I have found a block! It will have to wait to be made as I am headed to my mom's for a week. Won't be able to sew as we are cleaning out her home (stuff) as she prepares to move in with my brother.
It is going to be a hard week - going through 50+ years of "stuff" to weed it down to the keepers. |
Dragonfly Nana, I don't envy you the next week. I had that pleasure about a year and a half ago with my Mom. Hers was only 21 years. Enjoy the time with her.
|
Hi, legstrong. Glad to meet ya! Trust me when I say it takes no time at all to get used to paperpiecing...
Dragonfly Nana...I will cheer you on from the beach in Galveston!!!! |

So this is the pattern that I picked out: http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpa...uilt-Block.htm
I am attaching a picture of the fabrics I picked out. Can you help me match which fabrics from the pattern will go with what fabric from my choice? Thank you so much |
Those are gorgeous. I like the idea of the black as the focus (center fabric) and the grey as the background.
If you use the teal for the small points it is going to sort of blend with the grey and the black and purple are going to take center stage. If you use the purple for the small points then the teal is going to pop more. Whatever you choose it is going to be a beautiful center. |
Well, Nexxus...that does pose a challenge. I think I would color this pattern with colored pencils using the c olors in different areas first to see how it will look. I'd do it, but I don't have anything with me while on vacation.. however, seems like you have three light fabrics, and a dark. This will definately be challenging......
The colors are fantastic. That teal reminds me of water...it has so much movement!!! |
Just checking in....
How is everyone doing on centers? Can't wait to see what we will be working on. Nexxus...should finish removing paper from mine and plan to mail this weekend! Happy sewing! |
I love everyone's fabric so far.
|
Hi all. Alikat I can't believe you are done already-good for you.
I haven't started yet as I have another one that I have to finish and sewing has been at a minimum since I got back from my mom's. |
Wooohoooo I just now need to get moving with my center
|
I have a question about the size of each round. From the guidelines I get the impression that there is not a set size for each round.
Each quilter adds a whatever size they feel appropriate - as long as it is between 3 1/2" and 9 1/2" Is that right? |
Yes, Dragonfly Nana, that is right.
|
Thanks ssnare
|
if a person wants a smaller or larger size quilts we could put that in our "note/notebooks" of what we were envisioning. Like me I prefer the larger the quilt top the better but I know some ladies on the site prefer more lap size quilt tops. What do you think about doing that?
|
Sounds like a smart idea to me Melinda
|
I'm in...I really would like a larger quilt...

alikat....I sewed with my mother this past week and guess what I learned? I learned how to paper piece. What do you think?
|
I think it is fantastic. Are you a convert???? That fabric combo is great.
|
well I do not mind doing paper piecing at all but tonight I ran into an issue. I scanned the "templates" and printed them off but come to find out I should of flipped the pieces. Does this happen with a lot of the templates you find in magazine and books. That could get very frustrating to a person.
|
Hmmmm....trying to understand. I always sew the fabric to the back side of my pattern with the first piece facing away from the paper and subsequent pieces with rt sides together, and flip after stitching....I never have issues with this. Maybe pictures would help me understand what you are doing...just don't give up!. Once mastered, it is so fun and precise!
|
I can promise you I will not give up. I can't take pictures as I threw the stuff in the trash. I was so mad at it. Thank goodness I was just using scrap fabric and testing the waters first. I do like the precision of the paper piecing though.

I think the problem might have come from "scanning" the pattern and then printing it. Most patterns are to traced which keeps them the correct direction on your sewing template.
Alikat - help me out here but I think that when you paper piece the printed side (traced line) of the paper is on top so the unprinted side is toward the fabric which is below the paper. |
Dragonfly, that is absolutely correct. This way, you see your stitch line.....
|
Good. Sometimes a scanner can "flip" an image and we don't realize it - that would make the printed side of her paper the reverse of what she wanted.
That would royally mess it up. |
Hmmmm Ok I am afraid to trace my templates as I don't have the steadiest hands. Any recommendations people?

Nexxus...I actually copy all of mine on my home copy machine. I have never had a pattern "flip". If concernen, determine how many you need, & take to a copy center. Just be sure to check each copy to ensure it is a good copy. If it where to "flip" all of them would and then you'd just have the entire thing in reverse....
|
good advice Alikat - always check against the original

Oooh! Lestrong...that is pretty. I love the fall colors.
|
I agree with Alikat - very pretty Lestrong. I have some wonderful batiks that will go nicely with it when my turn comes.
|
Thank you ladies. I look forward to working with you all.

Hi Everyone,
We have had someone who had to drop out of the Round Robin. We are looking for someone who can replace this person. Do you or do you know someone who would like to do this? It is just a group of five and the mailing is every other month. Please drop an email to TheMamaHauser and she will get you all signed up. You can drop me an email also and I can help answer any questions you might have. Thanks so much, Nexxus831 |
Nexus, what group lost a member?
|
Oh! Nexus, I really have finally mailed my center to you. I know this may be hard to believe after several teases. I have a tracking number and will check later to see where it is....how are the other centers coming along? Nexus, have you practiced more pp'ing?
|
Alikat, I have not done anymore PP'ing but thought about doing some more practice this weekend. I have a lot of stuff backed up on my cutting mat though. I should probably finish those first. I just finished cutting out my fabric for my block. Should finish it this weekend. I will let you know when I receive your center.
|
Alikat, I got your package today and OH MY GOODNESS. I think I lost your package in my sewing room. You have to make a new center now.......LMAO
|
Hmmmm! Nexus, that sounds very suspicious!!!! Glad you like it!
|
Oh I love it. Now to think about what to put around that beauty.

Hello, Just to let you know that I got my package sent off today, so hopefully it'll arrive in the next couple of weeks. I did get a picture on my phone, but not got round to transfering it yet. I'll try to post it at some point.
