Short an Sweet 01-31-2011 12:31 PM

has anyone else gotten any pictures of their blocks or the finished row, ready to show everyone? I am going to make a decision on my final block and then I will add the sashing and repost new pictures b4 I mail.

ok I think this will be my final row, I still need to sew it all together, I will be sending 4 of the short sashing to go between the blocks and 1 long sashing to go down the new side, there will be one of these sets for each person, both sides of my row will be sashed, that way no one else will have to do more than 1 long sash, you can each add your row where-ever you think it looks best, when you sign the label you'll just sign which row you are making not the location of the row. So if you are the 4th person to work on it, you would sign for "row 4"

I'm going to start putting mine all together tomorrow, can't wait to see the pics of yours, lol I wanna see if the fabrics I picked out will work with your fabrics and colors, if not I think I will have to make them anyway even if they end up being orphan blocks, just cause I love the fabric

Robbi24 02-02-2011 06:57 PM

Well hello everyone, sorry the weather delayed me some, just finished the siggys and my label. I finished the applique part and now have two side seams and will be done, but a long night and work today has me sooo tired, afraid to sew so I will tomorrow and the will post pics (if no problems ha ha) more tomorrow. Good night

Short an Sweet 02-03-2011 06:24 AM

well I hope no-one is allergic to dogs, I had to bring my sewing upstairs, the water keeps freezing and my heater runs off of water. Sooo I had to move my space heaters from the sewing room to the upstairs, so I moved my sewing stuff upstairs also because I didn't want to lose 3 days of sewing.

Hi I hope no one is allergic to dogs as I have three and lots of stray hairs ha ha. I'm done and hopefully I will be able to post pics now. As you can see, my row is horizontal and I think I want it to be the center row but if you gals think otherwise go for it . I'm having a little problem with the label, the paper isn't coming off well. If it's not ready, I will send them later so my row will be on it's way.

Short an Sweet 02-03-2011 07:23 PM

I LOVE it, beautiful!!!
R the cardinals applique? or PP?
I have 3 dogs too, one doesnt shed but the black one and the blond one do, so I can't wear black (because of the blond hair) and I cant wear white (because of the black one) we keep lint rollers in every room lol and in the cars

Oh Robbi that is just gorgeous! I LOVE the cardinals. Man, I wish I was getting that one so I could just sit and stare at it. BTW, I have two dags also so no problem here. I think together they shed a complete dogs worth of hair each day! I also have one yellow and one black poochy.

Short an Sweet 02-04-2011 05:48 AM

well, we dont normally have this kind of weather so I should be back in my sewing room by the time I get my next row. I will lint roll my row b4 I mail. I'm so excited to get my first row, I have everything in mind for saritabee's row, just waiting to see if the fabric I bought will work, I've already gotten the embroidery designs for the 2 blocks I will be doing embroidery on. So now I can do Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, and one general travel block

Short an Sweet 02-04-2011 03:40 PM

well my row will be getting mailed out tomorrow morning, it will be heading to Booklady
Happy Sewing

Robbi24 02-04-2011 04:09 PM

Hello, I mailed out the row this afternoon so look out Saritabee here it comes. Short and Sweet the cardinal is pieced and the wing and face are appliqued. It also gets a branch with pine needles and pine cones hanging from it but it is suppose to hang down in the block below it. So I'm waiting for it to come back to decied if it will hang down or shrink it to stay in the block. Do to the weather I did not get to my LQS to see about gabric but will tomorrow or Tues so then I'll see about fabric for Craft Phanatic row.

well it says my row is out for delivery today!!

booklady 02-07-2011 03:22 PM

Received a package today! I like your fall colors "Short an Sweet"! Will try to work on it this week.

Mine is nearly ready to go. Turned out a little more "scrappy" than I wanted, but it will do fine. I'm putting a note to just use a large basting stitch when putting the blocks together as I might add sashing to calm down the scrappy look when all is finished. I really do love the log cabin and star blocks! Will post photos soon.

Short an Sweet 02-07-2011 03:50 PM

don't forget, no hurry, we have 2 months to get row #2 finished, mailing date is April 15. If you finish early and want to send it on, contact your ship to person and confirm they are ready for it

Short an Sweet 02-07-2011 03:52 PM

I love the anticipation of waiting for the next row, I pulled the fabrics out for my next row so I can get my row planned and maybe even get it cut out

OK here are my pics. I REALLY like the star and the log cabin. The others are little more "scrappy" than I intended. But . . . I love the fact that I did something with my leftovers and that pile is getting smaller! Plus I used soooo many different fabrics! This is not going to be a true charm quilt because I know of several repeater fabrics, but I'd be anxious to see if someone ever finds the repeats! I also don't expect all of you to keep the charm idea going as it takes a lot more individual cutting and piecing.

I'm going to put a note in my box to sew the blocks together with a large stitch. I'm thinking I may add a sashing between all the blocks. This may help to take away some of the "too much scrappy" look. But then I might not if the blocks tend to mellow out and look good together. We'll just see what happens!

Hope to get this mailed out by Wednesday or Thursday depending on the weather! Thanks in advance for the great work you do to help this along!

Had to do another entry to get the last photo. Even though the row is shown vertical, it is actually horizontal in the quilt. No space that wide to shoot a photo!

The small HST in block one are leftovers from a siggie block trade on this board. Block two is a take off of a scrappy star quilt someone has on the pictures section which I really liked. Block three is leftovers from some triangle project I did awhile back. Block four is one of my favorites . . . the log cabin. Five is also some blocks from a previous project that had never been sewn together.

So I finally did some good with these half finished, UFO's and leftovers! Makes my day.

Oh, booklady what a wonderful row and now how are we to add to it? lol! I will be really looking forward to that when craft phanatic sends it my way (pretty sure that is the right order) PS. never tell a quilter she can't find the repeats cuz I love I spy games ha ha

Short an Sweet 02-07-2011 08:00 PM

I like that you have a wonderful camera so I can see the colors well, lol, breautiful row'

k so we know you want your row to be horizontal, how would you like it positioned? on top, in the middle etc...

booklady 02-09-2011 12:13 PM

Robbi24, just add whatever blocks you want! Pick your favorites, use your scraps! I wouldn't mind at all if everyone did a log cabin or star block as those are my favorites.

Short an Sweet - don't worry about the position. As I mentioned I may end up taking the blocks apart to add a sashing but will wait until the end to decide that.

We're under a weather advisory (again!) with 3 inches of snow on the ground and more coming down. This snowfall is NOT typical of my state, so everything and everyone has stopped! Hard for a former Northerner to deal with but I stay home to avoid those that think they can drive in this weather but actually can't! I'll get my box in the mail as soon as life resumes here in Arkansas.

Thanks again for the compliments.

craft phanatic 02-09-2011 05:16 PM

Well I'm ready for it booklady! I have plenty of sraps and even a charm pack that I might put to it. And now that I know stars and log cabins are your favorite it is even better as they are my two favorites also. Talk about getting the perfect one for a first timer! How'd I get so lucky?! I actually made two extra blocks for Bonnie Hunters Roll Roll Cotton Boll quilt and I was thinking of putting one of them in too if that is okay with you.

I received your row the other day, and it looks even better in person! :) Also, what a cute notebook. I take it you didn't end up getting your label done?
I have a big black cat; no allergies here. But I was trying to remember, and couldn't - was allergies one of the sign-up questions? Because if it wasn't, it should be.

Short an Sweet 02-10-2011 08:41 AM

Yes it was one of the questions

My favorite is the cactus-looking block at the bottom! What's the name of the pattern?
