I had no idea the Secret Santa would be so much fun! Didn't realize it would take on a life of its own on the board - that is so great. Have my name and started up my box today. I will have to save this thread so I don't miss any of the conversations. I love mug rugs, and I did my first (and last, let me tell you!) paper piecing project a few months ago to make a mug rug for a friend. Thought I might try it again since I also signed up for the mug rug swap - but tossed that idea - paper piecing is not my idea of relaxing. I love machine embroidery and I am hoping to do a little gift that is a combination of quilting and embroidery for my "giftee".
Since I don't actually know anyone on the board, how do you all do "research" on your giftee? |
Since folks are adding more "info", I'll do a list too. Tho I do appreciate anything my SS would choose to make/buy/share with me! :)
Chocolate? Yum! Dark is my favorite. Favorite fabric colors? purples, teal/aqua, pink. Favorite non-fabric colors? teal/aqua, pink, gray/white Sewing notions? sure Quilt books or patterns? Since I don't actually know anyone on the board, how do you all do "research" on your giftee?
Hi Rennie...if you click on your SS user name you can bring up their profile. Sometimes there is helpful info on their profile.....but also on the profile screen you can click on their posts or started threads. This can usually give you ideas about what they like or are drawn to. |
My box is ready to mail

WOW!! Bunch of chatterboxes here! Couldn't keep up!
I've been busy in my sewing room doing some cleaning and sewing. Ok, was goofing off to, I admit it. Prize for the game has been mailed. Wonder who the winner is? Hmmm....I know she'll like her prize because she loves pretty much the same type of fabric that I do. Well...I don't really like batiks, but she does. No, no, no, she isn't getting any batiks. I don't have any of that in my stash, but I did have some prettys in what she does like. Well, at least I hope she likes it. I was going to cut it into fat quarters, but couldn't bring myself to do that, so I sent her what I had left. The last winner got the last 2 pieces of the fun Hawaiian fabric that I had. Thought it was cute and that she'd like it. Oh...how to I pick what to send? Well gee...with all the hints and such, it's pretty easy. The next question going out is going to be a doozy of a question. So, put on your thinking caps and stay tuned!!! |

Oh dreamer that is so cruel
The softy in you does not rule LMAO |
Ok, here are my answers to the extra questions-
1. I love dark chocolate, but don't like other types. 2. I love bright colors, gem colors, and light colored batiks, pinks and greens of any color or design. 3. Non- fabric colors would be teal, pink, acid green, hot pink, navy, burgundy, blue-reds, black, and grays alll of them. 4. As far as notions, trims and closures are more useful, since I have more tools than I can use. 5. I have way too many quilt patterns now, but would love a purse pattern since I haven't found one to make yet. 6. My book choices are biographies, historical fiction, serialized stories are my passion though. 7. I love HUGE t-shirts to sleep in since I wear a 4x they have to be really big to be able to sleep in them. DH wears a Large and lives in T-shirts also. 8. Handmade pin cushions are fabulous! 9. I love thin colorful solid color socks in an extra large so that they don't hurt my toes. 10. Other items I would love to find in my SS box? I would love trims, handles and findings for purses. Gift cards from iTunes, the App Store, Walmart, etc. 11. I do so simple applique, and only cross stitch embroidery. 12. When I am not quilting, I make all kinds of sewn thing, dolls, doll clothes, teddy bears, clothes, curtains, drapes, accessories, doggie coats, tote bags. I also read, play on my IMac, IPad, And spend a lot of time working with my dog, and being nagged by my cat. That is all I can think of to list. |

I made myself one of these and am wondering if my Santee might like to have one too...
http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=494775&stc=1 It measures 3-1/2 x 5-1/4. I put a pin mechanism on the back, so it could be worn as a large brooch or attached to a pillow or large bag -- or with a ribbon looped through the top of the mechanism, it could be used as an ornament. I've got mine displayed on a wicker basket using a ribbon through the pin back. I wonder if my Santee would like one... |
Why on earth are everyone's images posting twice? Been going on for over a week now I think.

Very pretty, I would if I was your SS.

Hint for the day. Your city's temperature is almost the same as mine today.
|
CookyIn.....I love the brooch/ornament......I'll be your santee!!!!!
I have been gathering things together. Almost ready to mail. My santee doesn't post very often so I hope she likes everything. It is a bit of an eclectic collection of stuff!!!! |

Since I don't actually know anyone on the board, how do you all do "research" on your giftee? Thanks, Penni for the hints on research - will begin right away! Merry Christmas!!!! (grin) |
CookyIN - yes! Anything homemade will be so well loved!
wowsa! You guys are all so fast. I've just started putting mine together, but I did order and receive a fabric I KNOW santee will like. And I have some things cut and ready to sew up. I keep a "little extras" box to send things out through the year, so I raided it and pulled together items she indicated she'd like based on her responses. I'm not worried about the "send by" date because my santee is not tooooooo far away - and that's the only hint you're gettin'! :) |
CookyIN, your brooch is perfect. Yes, of course you can send it on if I happen to be your lucky partner.

CookyIN, me, me, me, pahlease!!! Fabulous idea!

Going out of state on business last week of Oct.... think I'll mail the Box from there. Do I put myself in the hole for teasing my santee?

Nessie said: ...That said, I always love hand-made items like mug rugs or other small, quilted-type items. Pot holders are always handy . . . although I have been known to use an especially cute pot holder as a mug rug/coaster! :D
Nessie, I can appreciate that. At the Quilting and Embroidery Expo this year I bought a Maxine potholder pattern, and made it. It is so funny (don't you just love Maxine quotes !?) . Instead of using it for a potholder, I have it hanging outside beside my front door! I laugh every time I come home! |
