Thanks for the positive comments, ladies! Now, if my Santee isn't one of you, I can be fairly certain she'll like it... and if she is one of you, I know she will!

ljdugas31 10-10-2014 11:48 AM

I love anything that is handmade.I would love the package to be all handmade!!!

I have a bookcase of paperbacks still waiting to be read (mostly true & fictional murder mysteries--I know, quirky taste! :)--but, that's me!!!) So, I do not buy anymore. Wish I had more time to read!

VickiM, that is not quirky. I got hooked on true crime when there was a large family murder in Winston-Salem near where I lived at the time. It went national and ended up with books and movies. However, I have noticed that as I get older I like calmer reads (grin) - like quilting magazines and chat boards like this one on the "net".

As a somewhat newbie, let me say that I would love orphan blocks - a great way to motivate!

Thanks, Knitette! If this wasn't a newbie I don't think I'd have considered it either. But it just seems a great way to gain experience with borders, sandwiching/quilting, binding and such, with ready made blocks. If she doesn't care for the fabrics, she could make things to give away.

I am going to have to think on this. lol These are all brand new from a block swap I participated in but never got around to using in a project. I'd love to see someone "cut their quilting teeth" on them.

I goofed... what I was intending to say that I WILL be mailing to
someone I know in your state.

I HAVE NOT mailed your package yet, but soon I hope.

YES! Right to the hole with you . . . HURRY, we're waiting.

mhcpa 10-10-2014 03:27 PM

My Secret Santa recipient lives close to Mickey and Minnie. I am enjoying gathering items to send to her.

Dedemac 10-10-2014 03:56 PM

I guess I need to be in the hole, when filling out my wish list I said I didn't need any rulers, :( I was wrong I after reading about Bonnie Hunters new mystery quilt I would like to try doing it and I don't have one of the easy angles. I have lots of square rulers but no strange angle ones. I could probably make HST the old way. Just a thought!

I included hand made ornaments in my package last year and will do so again. I would love to receive some thing special for my tree. :)

I have found out some really good stuff about my SS and will start getting the stuff together. Hint, I have lived in your state.

juneayerza 10-10-2014 03:58 PM

I wish my Santaee would stop by so I could torment, I mean connect with her.

TOOMANYUFO'S 10-10-2014 04:11 PM

I would love the pin/ornament it is very nice. My Santa giftee also lives in a state where I have relatives living. I've started on the pkg. I will get the FQs next week so I don't forget about them.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=494775&stc=1

It measures 3-1/2 x 5-1/4. I put a pin mechanism on the back, so it could be worn as a large brooch or attached to a pillow or large bag -- or with a ribbon looped through the top of the mechanism, it could be used as an ornament. I've got mine displayed on a wicker basket using a ribbon through the pin back.

I wonder if my Santee would like one...

Yes please. I'd love one. Thank you for thinking of me! :D

jeanne49 10-10-2014 04:18 PM

very nice, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want one.

reeskylr 10-10-2014 04:19 PM

Popping in for a few. I've made some embroidery stuff for my ...Elf. Yah, I'm a secret Santa with an elf. I should be mailing my box out somewhere around the first of November. :) It's a loooooong time!

jaba 10-10-2014 06:18 PM

My Santaee hasn't posted since a year ago, she listed favorite colors and wanted a gift certificate. Don't know where to so just maybe a Visa card will work. I'm totally stumped over this one

VickiM 10-10-2014 06:35 PM

Love that hanging ornament, too. I just have a little tabletop tree, so it would be too big. But I appreciate it's cuteness!
For the ones that think they are not as adept at sewing as some, please don't let that put you off from still making handmade items for your ss. It's the thought that counts as they will know you made it from the heart. That's priceless!!! Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) I'm still working on a couple things for mine...she's going to get lots of handmade; hope she likes what I've made for her. The thing I'm making is something I found out about her while "snooping"...it does pay to do so!!!!!!!! :)

Dedemac 10-10-2014 06:38 PM

Jaba, you could get a certificate to one of the on line shops? Or find what shops are near her and get one from there?

Isn't the whole idea of the exchange, to exchange GIFTS?

Every birthday my DD gives me a gift certificate to my LQS so I can buy what I want. I certainly consider that a wonderful, thoughtful gift. Each to his/her own - lets not judge.

It was at Hobby Lobby. They had a free-standing display in the main aisle by their beads and charms section. It had all kinds of Christmas and holiday charms on it, and this was among them. I picked up two with the SS exchange in mind.

I've looked everywhere for a Keep Calm and Quilt On charm but haven't had any luck yet. Even asked at HL and Joann, but no luck.

SheriR, don't be intimidated by your Santee's skill level / experience. I felt the very same way in a swap as I was last year, and was feeling very insecure about making her items, knowing that her skills were far better than mine. Some words of wisdom that I actually have hanging on my sewing room wall helped ! :

" Don't Compare Your Beginning, To Someone Else's Middle ! "

Have fun !! We quilters are a pretty easy going and friendly bunch ! I am sure she will love anything you send !

CookyIN 10-11-2014 03:44 AM

I hope NO ONE is feeling intimidated by the picture of my brooch/ornament! Believe me, its craftsmanship is far from perfect, and if you could inspect it in person you'd see it for yourself.

A handmade gift is special, because you've given of yourself along with the gift and made something especially for someone else that they can't go out and buy in a store. I'd treasure anything my SS made for me, and I venture to say that everyone here feels the same.

sunrise450 10-11-2014 07:18 AM

I have very few clues from my Santee so I am going to make/buy what I think anybody would like. I know what she doesn't like so it should be ok. Her box is partially filled, am waiting for delivery of some fabric I think she will like plus some "other things".
Jaba, I sympathize with you. This is the second year in a row where I have a Santee that doesn't respond on the board. Maybe she works or other things are taking her time up, won't judge, just hope everything is ok. Maybe she is shy? I remember when I first started to post on the board, I was very scared that I would say the wrong thing.
Now? Take me as I am! OK to the hole I go! Hope some of that fudge is left! Yum! Yum!

It's a lot different, when one enters a public GIFT swap, which has rules. Joining the swap, implies willingness to abide by those rules. It's not 'judging,' to expect folks to respect the rules of a swap, which they voluntarily join.

jaba 10-11-2014 07:44 AM

I think maybe I was misunderstood, I'm not judging her, I just wish I knew more about her. I really like to personalize my gifts so they are definately for the person I am sending to, just like most of you do also. I do have the colors she likes so I will come up with a few things that hopefully she will like and be able to use. Nothing wrong with a gift card either...the item she really wants or needs may be more than the budget so that will help with the cost.
Just been a hectic week and am really not in a good place right now. To explain a little, my brother, who is my only sibling, passed away yesterday. I just need to get through this and then reorganized in thought. If I have offended anyone, it was not intentional and I do apologize.

Jaba, I'm so sorry about your brother's passing. {{{{{{{ HUGS }}}}}}}}

The swap rules state the sending of 4 FQs and a gift/gifts, to equal $20. Personally, I would abide by the rules, to which I agreed.

So true, I like any thing no mater what the skill level. And pictures hide so many flaws. They also reveal blocks in the wrong position.:p
