My DD wouldn't agree, she loves snakes?? Weird I know, she's even been bitten by them. Me I stay as far away as I can.

MizMelly, remember to bring a large tote bag with you, for when you fall into the hole. It'll come in handy, when we 'just happen to run across' stuff. I prefer the mesh totes, as they're nice and stretchy.

We have quite a few snakes, in my neck of the woods. If they get too close to the house, we just chase them back toward the creek. They, along with the owls and other assorted predators, help keep the rodent population under control. I'd much rather see a snake, than a rat.

I so agree with this. When I see one all I can do is say "snake, snake" the dh says where! Now my lab will try to catch them black bears and skunks. He still needs to learn that the last two don't run off but hold their ground.

He has caught a few snakes and some other critters. He likes birds at the feeder but not the owls, vultures and hawks.

Well it's time to start pondering on joining up on this again. It would be my second year and I received a great box last year. I just have to see if my house cleaning job is going to pick me up again since she moved. It's only $10 a week but it's my "swap" money. If she does... I'm in. When wass the last day to sign up again Teri?

Toodles,
Tricia

Neesie 09-29-2014 01:44 PM

Tricia, the deadline to sign up is today! Hurry, hurry! :)

Here's a link to the sign-up page - http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...a-t253795.html

Neesie, you are a true Pioneer Woman. I hate snakes, absolutely hate them. Those creepy crawlies give me the heebie jeebies. If we come across any during our midnight raids... er, stash runs, you handle 'em. Okay?

I'm feeling faint; think I need a splash of rum or kahlua in my coffee. Anyone else?

Quiltaddiction 09-29-2014 02:14 PM

I'm signed up and all ready to go...shopping :)

Wow...i've been away for a few days - been to the State Fair - talked to Big Tex....he said he'd be glad to help dig the hole bigger for us Ladies....But you all have been busy busy. Neesie - i agree- i'm always glad to see a snake in my garden - just have to make sure DH doesn't see it - he hates them. Wish i could keep a big one like yours around to chase the dang squirrels away.
Oh...i was just reminded...Big Tex wanted to say Merry Christmas Y'all....http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...d=493606&stc=1

IrishgalfromNJ 09-30-2014 01:33 AM

I have to say that I like the picture of Big Tex a whole lot more than the picture of Big Snake. I don't see many snakes but when I do, I go the other way.

CookyIN 09-30-2014 02:55 AM

Sign-ups have closed... soon we'll learn who our Santee is... can't wait to start filling that wonderful mystery package!

Cooky, not a problem! Most snakes would rather run away, than confront people. As long as I have a hose or a long-handled rake, I'll chase off any snakes we meet. We should still keep the rum handy, of course!

Interesting fact: The Yukon is the only place in Canada that has no snakes.

I don't mean to scare ya but a snake could easily hide around Big Tex's feet. Just sayin'! :D

buddy'smom 09-30-2014 06:23 AM

Oh, names will be here soon, can't wait to see who I get.. The fun begins.

At the risk of 'hogging' this thread - even we have snakes!

buddy'smom 09-30-2014 07:28 AM

We also have snakes, when I had my koi pond they would hide in the rocks for the heat.

Anoka Quilter 09-30-2014 07:32 AM

I hate snakes. They love to hand out in my garden and when I begin my spring cleaning they like to scare the you know what out of me. My husband can hear me scream in the house with the doors and windows closed, then he see me running into the house. I wait a good hour if not more before I head out to finish what I was doing, even when hubby does go out to move the snake someplace else.

Well, Big Tex is going to might lonely if he has snakes hiding around his big 'ole boots, cause I won't be hanging around. :D

MizMelly 09-30-2014 08:00 AM

Well, I'm not getting in any big ol' hole with snakes! Out here most of the creepie crawlies are poisonous! Rattlesnakes, coral snakes, scorpions, centipedes, black widows, Gila Monsters!! Nope, not going near any hole without body armor and a large shovel! (oh yes, I'll have the big mesh tote bag slung over my shoulder, just in case there's goodies to be had).

Neesie 09-30-2014 08:04 AM

Can't wait to get my new Secret Santee name! Just thought of a 'unique' gift, I could include in the goodie box! :D

Shhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone . . . but the Hole is actually quite luxurious. Last year, we made some major improvements and now it's quite clean and comfy.

Anybody sewn up any fun projects for the giftee packages yet? Pin cushion? Organizer? Table runner? Pot holders?? :)

buddy'smom 09-30-2014 09:22 AM

I'm working on a mug rug?? May make something else as well.

It's almost a month early, but it seems appropriate for the Secret Santa Swap... It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"! Not sure why it's upside down!

Neesie, I will have nightmares tonight with that snake picture puncturing my brain cells. You are very brave!

quiltingdragon 09-30-2014 03:40 PM

This is a "snake" I could live with - someone posted this as a found animal ad on craigslist! http://i.imgur.com/HVogoTF.jpg

Nothing yet but will make something once the stalking begins. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Anoka Quilter 09-30-2014 04:22 PM

I have a few ideas for an item or two I want to make. Just waiting till I get my name. Though I do have a box started for my secret pal and there are already a couple items in it.

Haven't started sewing as I want to pick out fabric just for them (as my luck is usually soon as I pick a print myself it will be a color/pattern they say that they hate!) but I begged the pattern off of mamaskeeto that she made me for my birthday this last year :) Also bought my big gift, at the Round Bobbin expo a few weeks ago. It is something ANY quilter should love and I hope my santee doesn't have!

Nah! No bravery involved, here. My hubby and I chased the snake off of the house and back to the creek, with a very long hose. It slithered away peacefully. :)

I started making some little things in July --- they were running "Christmas in July" movies on the Hallmark channel and it got me in the mood.....plus i've got lots to sew this year before Christmas so wanted to get a head start...been holding off doing more til i get my SS likes.
Neesie.....just checking .... but snakey stuff doesn't qualify as "unique" right???.....oh but wait - if i got a SS from the frozen north, one of those snakes that goes at the bottom of the door to keep the drafts out would be nice, right??.....hmmmmmm.....

Well, I suppose you could stretch out a snake and then freeze him, to put along the bottom of the door. Wonder how long it'd take for him to thaw . . . . ;)

tlrnhi 09-30-2014 07:33 PM

I'll be working on getting names out tomorrow.

SheriR 09-30-2014 07:46 PM

Is anyone else nervous? My first secret Santa and I really don't want to disappoint.....

Chester the bunny 09-30-2014 07:55 PM

May I'll get Neesie this year and I can use up my "scratch and sniff" stickers on the outside of the box to throw her off what might be in the parcel.

Yippee!!

quiltingdragon, that certainly sounds intriguing! Never heard of the Round Bobbin expo; I'll have to look that up.

SheriR, welcome to the SS! Don't be nervous. Your Santee is sure to love what you send. Once you get your profile from Terri, you'll have a better idea what they like. Beyond that I always figure that if I like it or need it, chances are good that they will too. Just have fun, and if your nerves get the better of you -- jump in the hole with us where there's always chocolate, wine, and a splash of coconut rum for your coffee!
