Don't tell TruPeach1 that you aren't going to do something...

Thank you. I thought the comment about generosity was a bit rude. It's not that people are not generous (which I do not include money in my definition of that word) it's just that some people truly cannot do more.

The comment about generosity was NOT mean to be rude, what it WAS meant to convey is that some people are able to send more than the 4 fq's and the $20.00 gift and some are not able to. And that is ok. The new people who have not done this swap before may not be aware of this. Someone who may not get over the limit may feel slighted. the hostess has NO control over this. So if you will feel like you have been cheated because you SS was not able to extend past the limit DON"t sign up. This is meant to be a fun swap and to get to make new friends from across the US and our international friends so PLEASE ladies lets keep the pot stirring off of the public part of the forum and if you have an issue please contact the hostess.

Terri, hope I did not overstep my bounds on this post.

Per conniequilts, I also am one that is not able to afford over $20, and included the mailing! but if its a problem, I will gladly cancel out of this secret pal santa. I have a fixed income, and have to watch what and how I spend!

Oh my you will not be sad this year. There is only me and my 2 children I have told them not to get me anything for Christmas for the past few years as they have student loans and medical bills to pay. I did SS last years as I thought that was all I was going to get in the way of any kind of Christmas pressie. I had the most wonderful Christmas. I was actually not going to open my pressie on opening day and wait for Christmas day but I couldn't resist. The members on this board are wonderful and no matter what is spent you can not put any monetary value on the LOVE that goes into the pressies that were sent to not just me but all the members who were in it.

If it helps anyone, I've been shopping yard sales looking for a gift for my person. Once I find out who it is, I'll be shopping estate sales to see if I can find a unique gift that doesn't cost a lot. Most of my little gifts won't be brand new (except the FQ's) but they'll be in good condition and something a quilter would enjoy. I don't think there was anything in the rules that said we have to buy new items, or spend over $20, so I think all it takes is a little creativity. :)

Sounds like fun! Sending a PM.

Short an Sweet 09-29-2010 11:46 AM

Amen, it's all about the excitement of something unknown and unexpected ( yes we're expecting the gift itself, but we don't know whats in it)

Exactly.

The other tip is find light weight things to save on shipping. The heavier it is the more it cost. I learned that the hard way. Also if there is a book in the package it is considered media mail. All you have to do is write MEDIA MAIL next to where the postage would go. Ask me how I know? I now try to include a book or magazine in all my mailings. What it cost in the regular postage by having it media mail I could use the money to buy the book or magazine. Hope I explained that correctly.
