Would love to join. I can do international.

Glad to see your healing. Maybe the right is just a bit overworked since its not your dominant hand?

OH OH I kept at and and TADA! finished my block tonight and wanted to dance. You will laugh when you see how simple it is but it was a newbie stumper for me. I am glad I didn't trash it.

Quilting with coffee? I JUST started drinking it after giving it up several years ago. I am just too tired these days to work without some. Up to two short cups a day. I can only have 1.5 liters of water a day per the doc so its hard to not do it all with coffee but some water is a must too. I think on these hot days I could down a tall glass on ice in 2.5 seconds then.. be thirsty all over a minute later. I sure hope they ease up on the old water police stuff. That coffee makesthose 4 a.m. quilting episodes well worth it. And the midnite posts to the QB easier also. I sure love quilting.

jillnjo 07-28-2012 01:33 PM

I decided I can't miss this month. I have the fabrics and the neatest book on Amish quilts which I have never used. And to top it off, they are miniatures! Off to decide which one I'll make.

Elisabrat 07-28-2012 03:18 PM

ok team vote here: I do not have any more black or tone on tone black to make a back for this now. After my many mishaps in the cutting job (no comments) I simply don't. Nor do I have enough of the other colors also for the back except for yellow which in my book goes a seriously long way in small quantities. If I use it on the back it will look like well.. a bee which truly sucks. I think I have yet to see a bold yellow backed Amish quilt. I have enough black and white tiny tiny pattern fabric and enough black and white tiny tiny dots. Can I break the rules for the back or is that enough to get me tossed on my rear? We do not have stores up here. I can always order some but its never the SAME black. I gave 99 percent of my fabrics along with my sewing machine away last winter when I was physically doing not very good at all. Figured it would ease the burden on my family. Now lucky (I mean this) me I am BACK and in the game and starting from scratch using all the donations I am given. I guess its not the most popular non color out there are I have other solids. I would love to stitch the binding on Tuesday if I can. What would you use? and should you be the lucky owner would you mind the slight pattern on the back? Inquiring minds would love to know.

jillnjo 07-28-2012 03:58 PM

First of all, there are no unbreakable rules in the swap! Just curious-what are the solid colors that you already have in the quilt? Sometimes a totally different color of binding looks fine. And you can make a bigger label in a solid color that might make it look less like a "bee"!! Go for it!!

amalia64 07-28-2012 06:40 PM

I want to join the Aug DQ swap. I will try to PM u. I can do international

marytoddliz 07-28-2012 09:49 PM

Hey, Bee's are cool!

Seriously I think what ever you do will be nice. I live in the Mtns also, but I am lucky we have fabric at our local mercantile and we have a Quilt shop a few miles away. But I get my best fabric deals online.

goldsberry921 07-29-2012 03:20 AM

I'm in for this month, sent a PM. :)

Lv2sew2011 07-29-2012 10:19 AM

Hey Krystyna, I've tried to leave feed back for every swap there's been but when they last updated the site I don't have the link to do that, and I've tried what others suggestions and it still didn't work, don't know why they need to fix something that don't need fixin.
Donna

Update: I finally figured it out! :-)

urgodschild2 07-29-2012 01:07 PM

Marytoddliz Is the DQ you are mailing to Nana Val for July or is it already for Aug?????? I love where you live. It is one of my favorite places to go for a drive and then over to Lake Arrowhead.

Ok I am sort of cheating here. I do not have a lot of solid color material. So I am using small print on solid. I think that is what they call it. The material does look like solids but if you look closely it has a print. It turned out very nice and I am very happy with it.
I was surprised when I googled the amish quilts on line that some of them were white. That was surprising. I was also very shocked at the prices of the quilts that they were selling. And that was the mini quilts which went from doll size up to crib size.

It is for July, I am just a little late, I fell down a flight of stairs and damaged both of my wrists. So my wonderful quilting buddies helped me out and finished the hand stitching so I could get it in the mail. For August I am going to finish a UFP that I started a while back, I am going to take a few blocks and tweak them into a perfect Doll quilt, with the help of my friends.

Did you go to the Long Beach Quilt show? It was a blast, but I guess I kinda forgot about the crowds, I had to sit out a little as my injuries got the better of me, but I did see some really beautiful quilts in the show.

Psychomomquilter 07-30-2012 06:44 AM

I'd like to join if possible.

Elisabrat 07-30-2012 07:13 AM

Come on in Psychomom! I think its still open for more. Marybeth I just checked out your avatar. When did you come take a pic of MY cat? Henry looks just like that and that is exactly how he likes to lay on my couch. He is a bit of a dork however and often rolls off furniture, cupboards.. not the most gifted of cats when it comes to balance. King Henry however can do no wrong. Just look at his face.. and ask him but please not when he is ten feet up admiring you from my kitchen. He falls, and never lands on his feet. I have learned not to notice him up there it scares me to death this klutzy cat of mine.

Krystyna 07-31-2012 07:20 AM

Almost ready to assign partners!
We have a smaller group for August, but I guess that's because it's August.
We have some new members, too, and that's always fun!
Here is the list I have so far.
Am I missing anyone?

I thought it might be helpful to some of us to share this site with some interesting information about Amish Quilt Patterns and the colors most commonly used:
http://crafts.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Am...lting_Patterns

Let me know what you think!
And I guess we can do Mennonite quilts too.
I don't know about any of you, but I've really been enjoying "American Colony" about the Hutterites.
One thing that baffles me, however, is that they don't seem to quilt!

Linny 07-31-2012 07:53 AM

Yay! So glad I could be in the swap this month after all - Thank you Krystyna! I have your package ready to go with this month's Amish DQ and the QAYG block for your soldier friend. I'm including an American Quilter magazine with a really interesting article about "Pot Holder Quilts" made for Civil War soldiers. It's a lot like what you are doing for your friend. They also had an article about Broderie Perse quilting, something I had never hear of until KrisB talked about it on this swap.

You know how you wash big quilts before gifting, so they will look cuddlier? This is not such a good idea with doll quilts. Of course I had to find out the hard way on your quilt. It does look cuddly, but also a bit wonkier. I still like it though and hope you do too!

marytoddliz 08-01-2012 09:34 AM

I sent my Partner a PM, I love looking at all the pictures of the DQ quilts, Who would have ever thought! A whole new world for me.

Smile all day long, make someone's day~

bjolly 08-01-2012 11:11 AM

Just sent Buslady a PM. This is my first doll quilt swap and I am so excited. I am actually in Sipshewana IN today in the middle of Amish country. This trip and the craft festival in Napannee are my birthday gift for this year. Talk about timing! I have been able to purchase my fabric here and can't wait to get started when I get home!

I checked out a bunch yesterday and they seemed to use a lot of blocks that were pointed. Is there a reason other than they are darned pretty and detailed with all those points? Curiosity makes me ask. I sure hope someone out here likes true red and blue and MAYBE a bright green or yellow... I have my block picked out. Wish me luck!

Elisabrat, I think that black is often a dominant color in Amish quilting. Here's a link about the fabrics used.

Have yall ever seen that commercial on TV where the family drags a quilt everywhere with them. They take it to the park, beach, etc... And in the final scene, you see the quilt hanging out the back of the car hatchback dragging on the ground. (IT WAS A QUILT MADE OUT OF SOLIDS.) Well, that sparked an interest in making a quilt of solids. (Which I haven't gotten around to yet.) It was either a commercial for detergent or A washer. I think.

So, there you go. I'm In, Pretty Please, Pick me. LOL, giggle. :)

Haven't seen that one. What was the product? I'll have to see if it was on YouTube
