I'm not sure yet, but I think I will hand piece them as I have not worked with squares that small by machine for a very long time. This is my first swap, so I will work at it little by little.
I have some left over from cutting, so may practice with them by machine, or save for another swap.
The double Irish chain sounds nice.

I am new here... just joined a few minutes ago. I would love to join this swap for the maximum sets. I love scap quilts! I do have one question. Do the separate sets need to be all different fabrics, or can we use the same fabric in different sets?
Nell

davidwent 01-26-2011 05:56 AM

my question is along the lines with Nell. I just reread the rules...Do I have to have 50 "different" stamps in each set? I entered for 10 sets.
I am a newbie and do not have even close to 50 different fabrics.
If this is the case I sadly will have to withdraw.
David

They have to be all different. Check the first page it should explain and PM Missi to sing up.
Hope this will help :-)

Yes they do, but if you can get the 1.5 square out of any scrap that should be fine as long as there are no duplicates in a set.
Hope you can fine some , you have until March 15 th, I think to may be find some more.
How many fabrics are you short ?

ScrapQuilter 01-26-2011 06:07 AM

each set has to have 50 dif fabrics in it but you can use the same fabrics in each set....... hope this helps with your question.

Thank you !! Will check it out !

I just checked out this site. Her method is ingenious!! She says it works best for a wall hanging, pillow, purse, etc., but may not be the best for a larger quilt. I'm now thinking I'll reserve some of these for a wall hanging just so I can give this method a try.

Thanks for sharing this link!

You are more than welcome!

Isn't that a kewl idea! Yes, she said it wouldn't work for a quilt...guess because of the stiffness of the innerfacing...but I'm going to give it a try on a small wall hanging and see how that works...will use the lightest innerfacing I can find...who knows by the time I get around to using the postage stamp blocks someone will have come up with a product so light it can be used in this method for a bed quilt...wouldn't that be great?!

:-D :-D

That's an interesting idea but for me... I can see me messin' up a whole lot more than I would want to. Maybe I will try it with 9 squares and see how I do. Clever though, if you don't mess it up. LOL

It was for including siggy blocks with our 1.5 blocks. It was decided that you do it if you wanted to but most said no. Your choice.

Ah yes I see. Thank you! Well, my daughter just got into a nasty wreck Monday and with all I have on me now I have to pass, I'll do good to get my stamps out now. maybe on the next swap I'll have more time. ;-)

msquilter59 01-27-2011 05:31 AM

I've got just a few more strips to cut into squares and then I'm ready to start putting them in their little bags! I hope to get some or all of this done this weekend. I'm definitely in for the next swap too!!!! Hugs, Mary B MS

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter! Hopefully things will go well in her recovery! Don't worry about the siggy blocks. Most decided they wouldn't use them so it would be a waste of time.

Momma_K 01-27-2011 08:31 AM

Thank you Karen, it'll be a while but she'll do well I'm sure. Have to take her to the Dr tomorrow, we'll see what the surgeon says then.

Yeah I think the easiest way out woud be good for now. I say I'm so tired and dragging tail so low the yard won't need to be raked for months! HA! Geee I'm so tired I'm silly...sorry...

KarenBarnes 01-27-2011 08:41 AM

No sorry needed, we've all felt like this at one time or another! Take care of yourself too!

ScrapQuilter 01-27-2011 09:20 AM

Life is never easy......... all the bumps and curves in the road some days seems to make life impossible.....

Thank you so much!! I just checked on her, she says she's doing ok but the pain isn't being so kind today. I'll be glad when can get her to the Dr tomorrow to see what he says. Her poor legs looked as if they were painted with black and blue paint. But then as my precious Grandmother always said, Give thanks for it could always be worse! She was a good woman.

Boy I love that advice! I'm so tired my back is killing me now but have to much to do. I am calling it an early night tonight if I can. Thanks so much for your care and concern, it's sweet and caring of you! We all need a little of that!

ScrapQuilter 01-28-2011 10:40 AM

my 16 sets went out a couple of day ago.............

Momofthree 01-28-2011 09:48 PM

I tend to procrastinate so I am trying to do a little every couple days. I don't want to wait until last minute.

I like the idea of hand sewing them together. I have never sewed by hand so I am going to have to look into how to.

Ms Grace 01-29-2011 06:36 PM

pm sent. I'm ready to sign up. :-D

msquilter59 01-31-2011 05:49 AM

I finished cutting all of my squares this weekend. Now I get to play with them putting them in their bags and labeling them! I can't wait to get them back! Hugs, Mary B MS

judy_68 01-31-2011 05:36 PM

Mine have been mailed.

Good Morning Swappers! I just finished cutting 241 one-and-one-half inch postage stamps from vintage fabric (not repros...real fabric from the 50's & 60's!) that are going to go on my Dresden Plate quilt I'm working on...oh the feel and the smell of the fabric just intrigued me! Not to mention the look of all these from back in the day! Sorry I couldn't include any in this swap gals...I'm being extremely stingy...lol!

Heeey can't blame you at all!! I have some extremely old blocks that my brother in laws grandmother made way back early 1930's. So fragile and delicate but think of the hands so frail as she sewn them together in hope this quilt would keep her family warm. I'm a sap for sentiment!! :XD:

Twisted Quilter 02-01-2011 04:41 PM

Darn, I finished my pile last weekend and I keep forgetting to put them in the mail. Maybe this weekend.

Keepmelaffn 02-01-2011 04:43 PM

Hi Momma_K! Oh yeah...I had to be sooo careful when cutting the fabric...some was thin to begin with so I used spray starch before I cut them...these fabrics came from a sister of a friend of mine (both are deceased now)...the sister had started making Dresden Plates for a quilt and never finished them before she passed. My friend gave me the unfinished Dresdens and the fabric scraps she had left from them. I have finished handstitching the Dresdens and will put them on a quilt top in the near future. OMGosh I am getting such a hoot out of finishing what the sister started! (She handstitched the Dresden Plate pieces together...such patience and skill!).

By the way...how's your daughter mending? Well I hope!

Hope you don't mind...I'm putting you on my "Buddy List".

Get Away 02-01-2011 06:40 PM

I would like to participate in this & hopefully do more swaps like this. Just have to look at my stash and I will PM if I can do it. I am a newbie to this message board and some what to quilting.

Momma_K 02-01-2011 08:49 PM

Goodness no I don't mind!! My first Buddy request, thats so cool!
Jessie is doing ok, I seen her earlier today as I took her boys to the Dr. She looks so tired but mending well. It'll still be a while that she walks again, she trys to put pressure on the foot but she's a big girl so it's going to be rough.

I just love the older things of yesteday, I take the squares out and feel as if I don't handle them with care they'll fall apart! I'm not sure what I'll do with mine yet but I do like to take them out and look at them once in a blue moon.

Missi 02-02-2011 07:28 AM

Judy from NY what is your board name? I can't mark you off my list as received.
Thanks!

davidwent 02-02-2011 01:02 PM

I never realized how different a small stamp looks compared to the full fabric it came from.
Did I explain that right?? LOL
