On Quilterscache it shows that "one pin" means it is a basic assembly block...which is what I'm aiming for.

Pretty to look at but relatively easy to piece.

The hardest part is making sure that your fabric (11 x 18) is usable within your pattern...even if it takes some creativity.

I would have to suggest picking a block and then seeing if you can make it using your choice of fabric so you are sure of all the instructions before you send it out. If you find you need to clarify any of the instructions or cutting hints, you can share that information with your fellow makers.

that is my concern too - but I will try very very hard to meet everyones wishes. If everyone posts their block before hand I could practice beforehand!

I am thinking of joining and this is the block I'd like but can't find the pattern. I know it's a Version of the Ohio star, does anyone know where I could find the pattern

I would like to join this but want to make sure I understand how this works, I cut my fat eighth, send it to the "boss" then she takes care of mailing it out to the specific person. I also pick a pattern and wait for the fabric to be sent to me I then make the block that I picked but with the fabric that I received then complete all the blocks send them back?

I think what you do is pick your fabric and your pattern. Send your F8 and pattern (or post the pattern here) to the "boss" who mails out the fabric and your chosen pattern to someone else. They will make the block you requested with your fabric and complimentary fabric, and send the completed block back.

So you're making a block with the pattern someone else picked out with their fabric.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I want to make sure I understand it perfectly too.

You do send your f8 (11 x 18) along with your pattern to the Hostess of the swap. You can either make copies of the pattern (so you make special notes if you wish) or post what pattern you wish to have used with your fabric. If you mail copies of the pattern with your f8 you will know beyond a doubt everyone will have the correct pattern. Be sure to put your board name on the pattern in case it becomes separated from your f8. You will also need to be clear in your desires for your fabric - such as "Please use my f8 in the "xyz" portion of the pattern and please use "white or white on white" or "use any fabric that matches the colors in my f8 and have fun"...

You will then be making a block for each f8 you receive from the hostess. They should also either have the pattern enclosed along with any special notes or have the pattern posted on this thread. I'd still suggest at least putting the web location on paper to send with if you are unable to print out patterns for everyone. If you are unclear as to their requests, it's better to ask because others may also have the same question.

I haven't participated in this swap but I have participated in several boomerang swaps and love the idea of everyone creating the same pattern for me. As our hostess urgodschild2 has stated in the rules and perhaps the most scary part is being sure your block measures 12 1/2" correctly. If in doubt, to me, leave it a little bit oversize and let the receiver trim it down...easier to trim...real hard to get them to grow .

Looking forward to this swap and having more fun. I just finished up my blocks for the Boomerang 14 April group if you wish to jump to that link and see what was made. That hostess has a link in her signature line that shows everyone's blocks so far.

Special note --- they say 12" because that is their finished size .... The blocks you make should be 12 1/2" unfinished. Please don't trim your blocks down to 12" ...

Not to insult any one knowing or not knowing but it can be confusing and I'd rather be upfront and make sure we all are on the same page. "Finished" size is what your block would be after it is in a quilt. "Unfinished" is the block just laying on the table waiting to be included in it's permanent home in a quilt top.

Also if using a pattern from Quilterscache, I'd suggest using a "SCANT" 1/4" seam or you might have a size problem. Some of them are cut pretty tight.

I think I have managed to give myself enough time to do this swap before we move in June. Barb, I will send you my info in a moment. Ladies, I hope no one will be super disappointed if I send the same fabric, same block as last time? I haven't made as much headway on that project as I'd hoped.
