thank you Moonwork for clarifying that. Blocks are unfinished at 12 1/2. And yes use a scant 1/4 inch on seams. If you don't know what that is, and you do have a marker for 1/4 on your machine plate, just move in a little more. That should work.
It is better to be a little bit larger then a little bit smaller.

Nelco's block may look difficult but it really isn't. It is hst and flying geese. The hard part is always getting the points just right. I am still working on that in my own sewing. Sometimes I think that maybe we need to challenge ourselves so maybe those who think it is difficult might reconsider and try it. I am going to make one up to see how hard it really is.

I'm not sure of how to read the cutting instructions either as it looks like there are a lot of bias edges.

    I'm game but hope leery.

You can request 30's fabric. This pattern is very much like someone else pattern. It is easy to do.

I guess I should write down all my comments in one post. LOL. It looks like I keep forgetting what I am saying. This is a leaning curve for sure. Did you all think that if I do the Plaited block from Quilters cache that you are ok with it. I have several on there that I would like to do. http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PlaitedBlockBlock.html
Mrs Taft Choice is fine. It is the same as the Ohio Star but a variation of it.

Crafty one........COME ON DOWN. You know you want to join us.

Oh here is another hint: You might want to have extra on you focus fabric that you choose because some times we make mistakes and need more fabric. For myself, I have been very lenient on the blocks I have gotten back. Not too much bothers me. So, yes some of the points that I have gotten back have not been perfect....that is ok with me. We are all learning and sometimes those darn points can get to us. No quilt is perfect in my book, not blocks. Also, sometimes someone cuts the fabric wrong and so they have had to piece together the material to make the block. Hey in my book if it looks right who will notice.. So I don't know how each of you feel about your blocks and how you want to have them come back to you. Of course we don't want them messed up, but partners try their best and the blocks do all look the same. We had one person in the swap pick a block that the quilter's cache said was easy and oh my goodness.....it was really hard to do. Many of us had to do it over many times. So we talked about it and the person whose block it was, changed what she wanted and so I want all of us to know that we can be flexible.
Below are a list of some other blocks that I looked at that look difficult but are not.
    http://www.quilterscache.com/S/Squar...aresBlock.html
    http://www.quilterscache.com/T/TableforFourBlock.html
    http://www.quilterscache.com/T/TheDandyQuiltBlock.html
    http://www.quilterscache.com/T/Tower...elotBlock.html
These are a few samples of others ones. Most have HST which most quilt patterns have. Fussy cutting a center is something that if someone chose that, they would probably send you the center along with their fabric. the Towers one uses a technique called snowballing. So it looks difficult but it's not. You surprise yourself when you do it because it is easy. So sometimes really look at the pattern and see how it is put together. Many of the patterns will show a triangle and of course most of us don't like sewing on the bias but generally the instructions show you how to do that using a square piece of fabric. so check them out.
Another real easy block to do is the HOle in the Barn. Many people are also afraid of doing the star patterns because of the points but it is just HST again.
So let me know about my plaited block. If you are afraid of doing that one, I will pick another one.

The plaited looks like a lot - but can easily be broken down. Just don't send us the background - cause there is a lot of it and ...well....my rotary cutter sometimes makes mistakes!! I think we are always a bit scared trying something for someone else. I have been known to make a sample quilt with my practice blocks - always good for a laugh!!

Moonworks - I like that. I am home alone tomorrow so I am going to try my block to see if it is easy to do.

I like your fabric traveling grandma. (I love blue)

I wonder if we can post this link in the mystery train thread or one of the other boom's to get more folks aware of this swap?

Would it be possible to have this thread as a "sticky" at the top of the swap threads page so it's easy to see when folks come to that master page?

Sure hope we get more folks to sign up, I know it's early but I'd love to see 15 + sign up .
