I've never done or even thought about a self portrait. I'll have to think about this.

This is where i'm starting, ironed white tone on tone to freezer paper to stabilize enough to draw on. Then I drew a rough draft of the image with disappearing marker and went over image with black fabric ink. I'm on my way. Note the size, I want to have plenty of room to work, remember the finish will be the size of a sheet of paper. 8 1/2" x 11"
PS. This image is one i found in a old magazine and have kept it in a binder for a time such as this. It is certainly different from the original. I don't have the original but I did make a "make do" template. Can't wait to see what happens, feel free to do something similar if you want. Note; I did say similar, not copy. Have fun!

This is my design, you may do something similar, please don't copy.

using mamas hexagons, she is usually in my head.

yes, there is a story behind this one.

It's not my design but it sure as heck fits my profile.

It should reflect your personality in the block or image you use, fabric you like and technique to pull it all together. Glad your in Gladys!
