Marietta - love seeing all of the pics together - gives a great idea on how the quilt will look put together!

Plus - I agree, the pressing hint helped me a lot - I have kept that message for when I get to that point. Our SF kids have come and gone, so Christmas is over for us. Enjoyed seeing them, but it was too short! But now I can get some sewing done.

Armylady - my husband grew up about 30 mi from Killeen. I met him when I was at Baylor. I could talk TX forever!

zozee, Many quilters press the seams toward the darker fabric. Especially with white, pressing to the dark side helps the white look better from the front (cleaner, neater, more chrisp, without a shadow of the seam underneath showing). Before quilting some people even check white fabric pieces in the quilt top to see if any dark threads are laying on the whites, because stray dark threads can show through the white fabric after quilting and be unsightly.

Here's how I iron a Churn Dash, trying to keep the most seams that I can going toward the print and away from the white, while making sure to iron in a way to nest the seams of the 9-patch. (My camera is not great so I took pictures of three blocks in case the seams are more visible in one than another. .) You'll notice I didn't cut off the dog ears yet. :-)

I've done these two sets this morning. Pictures are laying on my couch, there's no sun out now. They are straight, they just don't look like it laying there on that cushion.

Givio--I try to press to the dark whenever possible. It just doesn't seem to always cooperate. Like I have to choose between flat seams or "unsightly" dark showing through. Which, frankly, I guess has never bothered me, but then again, I'm not in this hobby for competition. I'll keep trying to make seams look good front and backside, though. I won't give up.

Quilt police wouldn't want to swap with me. Nor would anyone with OCD about seams.

Libster/Lobster --pretty blocks. Love all shades of blue, and very familiar with crappy indoor lighting and cushion camera angles.LOL

How does everyone envision a finished top? Blocks with or without sashing?
