Yeah, check walmart. I cut my fabric on a 23" mat that I got at my local walmart for 13.00 it is the plastic June Taylor one, and it has a one inch grid on it. Also see about getting a straight edge or a 24 inch ruler! These are normally better to get with a coupon to Joann's!

NEWQUILTMAMA - JustWannaQuilt and CCalQuiltGirl had great suggestions.

I'll try to find some utube or other links to cutting strips properly and straight.

I'm super busy but just took a 5 minute break to rest my back. Gotta run.

If anyone has ideas or links - please post them. Thanks

My fabrics are folded over twice (approximately 42" to 24" then to 12"). I iron as I go and make sure my fabric selvages line up and don't 'smile' or 'look cockeyed'. The folds should be 'flat' too - not bumpy. You don't need a HUGE mat - just something at least 12-15".

Found these links but did not read every word or watch the entire utubes.

Cutting single fold fabrics if you're comfortable with that.
*I* would start with bulk of fabric going to the right NOT straighten edge and then flip. I definately would IRON IT FLAT before cutting anything.
