I started cutting my fabrics today and learned that I should always read the pattern instructions all the way through. Well newbie learned a lesson. This is only one of the wall hangings I am working on hope you all like the ideal.

    Mystery wall hanging.

Weather here is damp, cold, & grey. Lots of time to sew. Even hand sewing goes quickly. Hoping for some sun soon, but forecast is for more rain & tornado tomorrow.

Army lady, I know all about reading directions. One tip that I learned many years ago and really liked was to make a sample block of any pattern before you start cutting your good fabric. The neat thing I learned was to set aside some of your stash that coordinates and make all your sample/ trial blocks out of the same fabrics or similar colors and at some time in the future you collect enough blocks to make a sampler block quilt and all the blocks coordinate. That is one of the best planning and learning tips I have learned over the years.

I like that star pattern you are working on. The rich dark blues are wonderful.

Thank you. I use Inklingo and it makes me look so talented but all I have to do is sew along the line! I taught myself to hand sew with it nearly 3 years ago & haven't looked back!

ube quilting, the problem I had was with FQ's the pattern needed 4 of them and then when I went to cut the material 2 of the FQ's were too short. The pattern called for them to be cut 22 inches long and of course a real quilter would know that FQ's are 21 inches. Lesson learned I went to Joann's today and got some other material it is in the washer now.

If you only needed 20" your fat quarters would have been 22"! Fabrics are all different in my experience, no guarantees of a 44" width. Especially after prewashing.

Fat quarters can be tricky. They are not all created equal. Not all are cut to proper size and some do shrink when washed

    Glad your issue is solved.

GramE I Love your stars and diamonds, can't wait to see what you create. I am new to quilting and I don't know what Ink lingo is but I will be googling it because if it gives you lines to sew on that would help me out a lot.

I have been in Nashville for the past 10 days or so visiting with daughter and hearing her give a presentation - we had a busy and fun time together. She plays in kickball league on Sun afternoons - we had a beautiful day other than a friend, the first kicker, planted and stepped towards first base and tore his achilles tendon. So surgery on Tuesday and out for up to a year. Bummer. She and the other captain told everyone to make sure and stretch - guess they won't have to repeat it at practice next time.

I am thinking about joining in - have wanted to in the past but have had different issues that kept me from it. So spring seems to be clear sailing at the moment - but with me things can turn on a dime.
