Dining room = Sewing room?

I give you all credit for being able to use your dining room to quilt. True quilters. Quilt wherever it works for you. Me on the other hand get crazy when the throw pillow on a couch is not exactly in the right place. My quilting needs to be in its own place where I could walk out and close the door when I am done. If things are out of place, I need to straighten it all out before I start to sew again. Yikes!!! What do they call that??

Through the years I've sewn all over the house. We bought a 12 X 16 barn type storage building about 5 years ago for my sewing/canning room. Well, we wound up with a chest type freezer, a gas cook stove and my canning supplies along with my sewing machines. Gradually DH started putting some of his stuff in it until it became too crowded. So when I bought my short arm quilting machine with a 12 foot table we bought another storage building. This one came with insulation, it was a repo building and is a 12 X 20. I set my foot down about him putting some of his stuff in it. It's strictly for my sewing. But I still have two industrial sewing machines in the original building that I don't have room for in the newer building.

I've been reading through all these posts about sewing in various rooms, tables, closets, blah blah blah . . .THEN . .finally someone like me, coastienest !!! I can't even warm up soup if the sink has dirty dishes, so how could I ever sew in anyting but a pristine working area!! LOLOLLL !! I am getting a little better lately. I am finally able to have two projects going at once, even tho they are both rag quilts for the GS & GD. DH & I share hobby space in the sunroom where the natural light is great all day. I cut and press in the dining area few steps away. I'ts cozy & we both like the set-up.

I sew in the dining room. One bedroom apt. I'm getting set up still, so no great pics or magnificent ideas...yet...
My hubby did find a sewing table at Joann today that folds up flat for storage, so we got that for my sewing/cutting table. Have to see if it works great. Hope it does. :-) I'm pretty excited to see how this all comes together. I like the idea of finding a way to make the dr a permanent sewing room. We're not really an eat-at-the-table family anyway... ;-)

My dining room and living room are my 'sewing room' right now. No pictures allowed!
Lucky me, my DH also has messy hobbies, so can't/won't say anything about it. On the other hand, I do try to keep the mess to a minimum.

Good news! My hubby took the new table out of the box & set it up. Found out later his motive was to get me to start cleaning & organizing...well, it worked. :-) he moved my plastic organizers against the wall, and I did some more putting away and organizing. The table isn't perfect-we'll have to modify a bit, but it's good enough. And I'm SUPER excited to be able to use the dining table for cutting and my new table for sewing. :-D

I sew in a corner of my dining room. My house is 1400 sq ft and I have two kiddos so very little extra space anywhere. This works great for me. We can still eat at our table every night for dinner. I've quilted a large lap quilt (72x80) with this set up. Just set up my ironing board to the left of my machine for support.
I keep a few supplies in one of the drawers of my hutch. All my extra fabric is in the bedroom closet. I have a six ft table I take out when I need to sandwich my quilts.
Hope the the picture comes through. The sewing table I got on Craig's list for$15. The other one to the left was a desk my children got from their grandfather.

here's a pic of what we have so far. the panels behind the table are for the design/basting wall, and everything's mobile. we have a little round table that i can use for cutting pieces and holding the tackle box (sewing supplies)

Thanks to all you who showed pictures of your space, I'm not the only one who pulls out for a week and moves it back. I'm still laughing at comments, sound familiar. My DH has a tendency to leave things lie and expects me to clean up, amazing how fast he complains when I move something and forget where it is, then tells me I shouldn't move his stuff. I'm in the process of moving my sewing items upstairs to (the dumping ground) where I initially tried to create a sewing room. It is somewhat organized (in my mind), and I am working through it. I've been sewing in the living room for nearly 2 years on a 6' folding table and need to get the table out of there so I can set up a 30" square quilt frame and finish a quilt for my son. I vow not to bring the table back down even if it forces me to clean up that room, but I also won't have to run up and down stairs for misc. quilt supplies.
