No, if I ever, ever get organized, buying more is not the goal. I definitely need to "create, use, and enjoy" what I have.

No, I organize because i'm OCD. And, if I know what I have, I don't tend to keep buying more just to buy more. Lately, I'm only buying if I need it to finish a specific project. I really would like to get my fabrics in one certain place. And, I'm going to need to quilt and sew a little faster and a little more to make that happen.

It is nice to buy when the sales are too good to pass up...but, I find that after awhile, I want the next "it" fabric that has come out. So, I am really really trying to get a handle on my UFO list. "Which is really long!" And, use what I have at home. I bet other then small amounts here or there to finish something up, I don't NEED to buy any fabric for at least several years.

But, I'm really having fun reading your answers. They make me smile.

I will spend a few hours tidying up and organizing my sewing/guest room today as we are expecting company on Sunday but I don't usually purchase fabric on a whim...I generally have a project in mind when buying fabric. However, I somehow still have a larger stash than I need.

I'm starting to worry about SABLE- stash accumulated beyond life expectancy. I love scrappy quilts and have vowed to use what I have for backings and quilt designs, etc. I don't have as large a stash as maybe some people do but several backings don't make as big of a dent as you would think! There's a lot of sewing to be done .

I'm putting fabrics I no longer like in a pile. Periodically drop off to church or thrift store. In pile for awhile if I really still like it I can pull it out but frees me from keeping most and shows what i really want to keep.

I try to keep my sewing room tools and stash organized so I can shop there instead of buying new. Not that it necessarily always works out that way LOL

I have to admit that before I got a handle on it, I did this for
years!
I was miserable too.
How did I break the habit? I went broke, lol.
I got tired of the whole vicious cycle and realized if I was gonna climb
out of the hole, I had to start with downsizing.
I am focusing on my immediate family's lap quilts and only buying what
is needed, (very little), for those...unless some falls out of the sky, lol .
I don't think it's going to rain fabric anytime soon, but that would be
a sign I need to keep it. (see, it's hard!!! you fight it continually and
don't stop!)
That will be my mantra for 2017...downsize, downsize, downsize...ahm...

My friend and I have decided that organizing is over rated. Spend most of 2016 trying to get organized, think of all the hours we spent organizing if we turned those into sewing hours, what could we get done??

2017 my goal is to sew my wait out of the clutter, results will be organization.
