Default Fat Quarter Storage with a Sizzix Die

I saw recently that Sizzix had come out with a special die for folding fat quarters. Basically, you cut the die from cardboard (I used comic book boards), and wrap the FQ around it, and they store in regulation-size photo boxes. It's a pretty ingenious idea for a die. I have a Sizzix Big Shot (kept from the days when I used to scrapbook instead of quilt) so I bought the die, and I have to say I love this type of storage for my FQs! I used to fold them the way Nancy Zieman demonstrates on her website, but that method creates a lot of folds and requires a lot more pressing. This method of wrapping them around the Sizzix die-cut has only two folds long-ways, which is nice.

I have an old VHS video cabinet that I had repurposed to hold my FQs when I had them folded up small. Now it's holding my photo boxes, with all the FQs sorted and boxes labeled (I am a labeling fanatic). The other items you see in the photo are my panels, which are folded around comic boards also.

Great idea and you can see what you have instead of just stacking them.

Very cool. How big do you cut your boards?

The boards, when cut by the die, are designed to fit in a 4x6" photo box. So I usually cut them a bit bigger, maybe 5x7". They can't be any larger or they won't be able to go through my Sizzix Big Shot machine.

I bought this die and am anxious to start using it! It'll be a big job though.
