I'm going to have a 'quilting cabinet' built and going to request that the shelves be covered with formica. Anyone see a problem with that?

I have a book that says tin foil is acid free. I have used it on my own shelves for past two years.

DH put wood shelves in the spare closet for my fabric and I lined them, back sides and bottoms with cotton batting that was left over from projects. Nice to get a place for your stash.

I tried paint would be the easiest finish. I don't think that you would have a problem storing fabric on painted shelves. My fabric has been on painted shelves several times and it seems to be fine.

Another option is cloth covered baskets. I noticed Dollar store had collapsible fabric covered containers which would be easy to pull out.

I have a beloved antique armoire that I wanted to use to store my quilts in. I knew the wood was acidic, and would eventually ruin the quilts where the folded edges touched the sides of the furniture. After thinking about it, I finally got some of the shelf liner that is vinyl on one side. I stapled it to the sides & back of the armoire, and folded & placed my quilts inside. I leave the door closed, but, occasionally, I'll open the door to see my treasure trove of quilts that I've made over the past 30 years.
