Love your nook Notwendy...the retro green bottle glass fits in with mid century modern decor, too.

I need to corral my stuff...sewing space became a dumping ground just before Christmas when family arrived...now I want to sew and having trouble getting around in my space...haven't had time to organize yet and won't for a few weeks...it's driving me crazy....

Quilty Louise...wow you've gotten a lot accomplished...there's light at the end of the tunnel for you....I like the idea of boards, but don't have the time to refold all my stash...I ruler fold mine.

Well here is today's progress. I worked for about 45 minutes. I've been taking the fabric off the pile, pressing it and then cut it for making yo yos. I have a bin I'm putting the neatly pressed and cut squares in.

equigle5 I see the floor! way to go.

I brought home some scraps from the quilting club so today I ironed, folded and put it away in the correct drawer in the correct color department. Would have just thrown it on a pile if not for this thread. Thank you! Also since I was doing that I found the fabric I want to use for a "thinking of you" block for a friend who is sick.

This thread is so-o-o good for me.

Here is a picture of what I have been doing. NOT all of the fabric

I wish I could say that this is showing a major improvement, but
sadly no it doesn't even look like I was sitting there more of the
    day.

I still have ALL of these bins x4 to do.

Wow! That's some seriously organized fabric! I love it! I can't quite read your labels. Are they labeled with measurements and maker or what? Please explain your color coding. I'm so curious!

zozee I will describe in detail my "system" for labeling, and folding.

Now I KNOW some of you may think NO WAY to much work to do
all that, and that is fine everyone IS entitled to their own opinions.

For ME this is what I chose to do, I want to be able to look at my
fabric and see how much is there. By doing it this way eventually
the hope is to NOT buy so much fabric and start using what I have
    in my own "fabric store".

I go to the Dollar Tree and buy the colored index cards. Sometimes
they have the neon colors (like in the picture) and sometimes they
    have pastel colors.

Usually I take all my index cards and comic boards to FedEx Office
and have them to cut the bundles for me (much faster, and less wear
& tear on the body). However for the sake of taking these photos I just
    cut them buy hand.

Cut the cards in eights (1/8) as in the picture). I laid out 1 of each color
    in the bundle of cards.

Next I created using MS Word, and Avery labels #5195 return address

For my comic boards some are cut in half (1/2), and some in quarters (1/4).
Fabric that is 1 yard or more (up to 2 yards) gets folded onto a full board.

The 1/2 (length cut) boards get fabric that is any length x full WIDTH of fabric
(9"x42" etc). UP to 35 inches.

Fat Quarters and Fat Eights go on the 1/4 cut boards.

I make a label for EACH board with fabric. I circle FQ F8 Half, or I write in
    the measurement of the fabric.

I use a BLANK piece of index card to write "PANEL" with measurements
    of the panel.

Sure hope I didn't over do my explanation of my folding/labeling system.

That's a great system. It tells me to move fabric with a yard or more to boards. Is there anything wrong with using cardboard? Like from a box.
