But then katier825, I went to the place that you mentioned, that's even better, because it's smaller and really, how many different kinds of needles do I actually use anyway? I buy the children's plastic crayon boxes and store needles, tools etc. each category has a different color box so I can pick out what I need rather quickly

Grannie, I like your idea the best - repurposing something that would otherwise be disposed of. I've begun saving all sorts of containers - my husband is sure I've gone over the edge but he's beginning to see the light.

I had a little flat cardboard and plastic that the water additive Mio is displayed in I wanted to keep but I didn't rescue it from my cart and the checker tossed it. Just think how well that little 1" deep box would have fit in a shallow drawer? I didn't know what I would have used it for but it would have been perfect for my needle supply. Next time I'll save it :-)

Not only do I keep things out of the landfill, I keep $$$ in my wallet for fabric :-) :-) :-)

I found a box at Michael's in the jewelry making area. Needle cases fit fine and it is long an narrow, easy to take with me when I take a class or go to a sew in.

I got a flip over box from Gander Mountain in the fishing area and put all the feet for my sewing machine in it. It is quite small and holds even needle packs all in one place. Love the little boxes.
Have the Hot Wheels boxes to store spools of thread in, they are flip over as well and hold a lot of spools.

I had seen a suggestion using large pill sorters to store needles, but mine didn't fit in the sorter I had. I found a divivded storage container in the craft section at Walmart- maybe for beads?- that works perfectly. It's roughly about 7x9".

I'm pretty sure it was in a divided plastic box that fishermen use for lures and stuff. She said that the sewing machines needles fit perfectly in the sections and it was very easy to store like needles together.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a lot of needles on hand? What is the purpose of a lot of needles? Am I missing something?

Different needles, different purposes, different results.

For regular sewing ... Universal needles are what I want, but which size?
So that means two or three packages.

Sometimes when I am FMQ the "Quilting" needles just don't do the job.
Embroidery might work better. Sometimes Topstitch needles are what is needed.
Microtex are on standby.

Then there are Jeans needles for heavy duty work.
Leather for the obvious. Metallic for those specialty threads.

Yes, I have a lot of different types of needles ... with extras on stand-by.
If I catch a sale ... stockpile!

There is nothing worse than to not have what I need, when I want to use it in a project.
So yes, I have a nice little stash of needles!!!

I use one of those for the needles for my sewing machines, sergers and coverstitch. My industrial machine needles are kept in a drawer on it's table. I use one mini box for each size/type, the boxes for the Klass(speling?) don't fit but the others all do.
