I went to Lowes and bought a couple of feet of clear vinly tubing (I think it was 3/8") and cut a slit the entire length, then I cut it into smaller segments that would fit around my bobbin. Since it is clear, I can always see what color thread is on the bobbin. Previously I used the small ponytail holders for kids, but I couldn't see what color was on the bobbin. I like the clear tubing better. But beware, if you do this, make sure the tubing is nice and round. When the get toward the end of the roll, it gets squished and ends up more of an oval shape which doesn't work very well.

Now that's neat! Creative thinking and cost effective.

People on this board are so awesome, talented, and giving as well as smart! Great idea for thread, the box with tees!

I keep mine in a round rubber thing I bought at Joannes, the bobbins snap right into it and it holds them snugly.
|
Since my threads are on hooks on my pegboard, I use pipe cleaners to keep the bobbin with the thread too.
I'd really like a wooden rack that the spindles are long enough for the both. Maybe I'll make one. hmmm... |
I try to use mine up. I will use them when the bobbin color doesn't matter, or for whipping down bindings. My stitches don't show when I bind, so if it is even close in color I use it.
|
I use small pieces of paper with thread number and tape it to the bobbin. As I was making doll clothes it was easy to know which bobbin went with each spool.
|
I use toes separator You use to put nail polish on toes holds just the right size for bobbins.
|
I attach a small piece of tape on top of bobbin, smooth around the edge so there are no rough edges and using a find tip pen I write name and # color of thread so I know which one it belongs to. Works like a charm.

What do you do with bobbins that are really low on thread? Do you use it up on your machine even though it will last only a little while? or do you just get rid of the thread?
