Congrats on the new house! I worry about the effect of sun on fabric also. Move it away from direct sunlight. I find it motivational to be able to see my fabric, thread and trims and tend to forget what I have if it's packed away.

Ikea also has a great selection of very inexpensive books cases different heights and you can add different style doors. Great way to go. I have 2 in my kitchen the top of the doors are glass and bottom of the doors are solid. I have one in my sewing room and the top is an open book case with solid doors on the bottom. They have many options.

Dollar tree has the fabric cubes now. I just noticed them the other day. Dollar General probably has them too.
