Today, Labor Day, as like the last three days, I've been taking control of my scraps. Down to a very small amount in a laundry basket that needs cutting and sorting. Whew. I think I need to tell my terrific friends that they can hold off with the donations for awhile. Will have tons for the Guild Free Table as well.

Assuming we don't lose power over the next few days due to Florence, I will be organizing my art quilts, show quilts, and wall quilts using pool noodles and making muslin covers for them. Several quilts are ones that were sent out to shows over the years and then took up residence in plastic storage containers, but I don't like leaving them folded and was in the process of switching all of them over to pool noodles and muslin covers when I got sidetracked last year while working on a series of collaborative pieces. I have got to get these under control before they get damaged... so that's what my next several days will focus on.

Rob, good luck with the weather. I like your pool noodle tip. Not organizing here. A family member had surgery this week and I'm the house nurse.

Thanks, Lots. Storm track changed considerably yesterday so it looks like we are not going to get much more than some heavy downpours and some wind gusts in the 35mph range. Could cause some trees to come down because our soil is so saturated after unusually rainy spring and summer, but less liklihood of flash flooding and serios wind damage than would have been the case with the previosly forecast track. NC and SC are really having a rough time with this one.

I hope your family member has a speedy recovery and your nursing duties go smoothly.

All of your organizing tips sound great, I just need to put them to use ha ha. Right now I am cutting up some scraps trying to utilize ever scrap of fabric for our small guild to use.

If any of you have any extra fabric from your organization and purging, please keep our small quilt club I mind, I must tell you up front we don't even have any funds to pay for shipping. As I have stated before on this board, we are all elderly and on very limited incomes, but we try to make quilts for people who lose their homes and possessions to fire as well as quilts for the children's hospital, so it is a challenge for sure, and nothing goes to waste
if we can help it. We are all too old to hold fundraisers any longer, the last quilt show we had, if it hadn't been for a member's daughter who lives out of town, we would have never made it and that has been probably six or more years ago. so you can imagine our ages, but we still keep trying.


So if anyone has any spare quilting material, or quilting supplies please keep us in mind for any donations, and if you will send me a private message I will get back to you with address for shipping and thank you so very very much.

Still busy making storage bags for my quilts using muslin and pool noodles. This is working out great. I made a muslin cover for each pool noodle that is about 4 inches longer than the pool noodle itself. Once I insert the noodle, I stitch the cover closed turning the excess into a tag where I can write the name of the quilt, its size and the year it was completed. Then I roll the quilt around it and using muslin make a storage bag that slips over the whole thing, but is short enough for the "tag" to hang outside when I tie it shut. So far I've made 9 of them and it's really nice to only have one quilt per noodle. In the past I've layered more than one quilt onto the noodles, but it was a pain trying to figure out which quilts were where.

I'm also in the process of destashing art instruction books and have had good luck selling some on eBay. Ones that don't sell will be donated to the local thrift store. So far I've managed to free up one shelf in my art studio--Yay!

Still trying to make sure I find one thing every day that can be either thrown away, donated or sold... it's getting harder since I've done all the easy ones

Last week I decided to start cutting up scraps. I am making progress...I have all the greens, browns, grays, purples, blues, and blacks from shoe box sized and bigger bins starched, pressed and cut as well as 2 baskets of miscellany which measure 12 x 16 x 8"! The larger pieces (short FQ's and FQ's) and certain wof strips I have not cut up. They are perfect for bindings on some smaller quilts. Strings are going to my quilt guild Sit N Sew as some members are going to do a string star quilt with 4.5" squares. Then I moved onto 2 large containers of pastels and golds. Almost done with pressing the golds. Once I have them pressed and trimmed I am going to quit for a while...my hand and shoulder are getting sore, and I need to get some sewing done. I'm anxious to get started on a couple of scrap quilts I have in mind with these new cuttingsl The biggest cut is 5 x 10 and 5 x 5 as I found a nice quilt to make with those sizes (have one already kitted up), then I cut as many strips as I could from the rest of the pieces and put them in their appropriate sized bin ala Bonnie Hunter. Getting those baskets emptied felt so good! Now get these pressed, cut and onto sewing!
