floral quilt gardens in northern indiana
My mom and I just finished a 4 day trip to northern Indiana(Elkhart, Shipshewana, Middlebury, Nappanee, Goshen, etc) looking at the floral quilt gardens and quilt murals that are on the sides of buildings.
It was a lot of fun - the weather was perfect - got to stop at quilt stores in Shipshewana, and neighboring little towns.
A great place to head to - just a reminder - if you want to add a bit of shopping, remember in the Amish communities, things are not open on Sundays..If you're just going to look at floral quilt gardens, there are no time constraints due to them all being outside.

Hi. We used to live close to there and really do miss it. It's an entirely different way of living - so quiet and peaceful. We do hope to get up there this year. I want to go to Shipshewanna (?). We went one day and the waiting to get in due to car back-up was horrendous. After about 1 1/2hour of waiting, we gave up and went back to Warsaw.

I am a Michigander and Shipshewana, Middlebury and Goshen are only an hour away from home. This is a lovely floral event and more quilt shops than one can stop at. So many good ideas, wonderful fabrics and kind and helpful people. Glad that you enjoyed your time and the gardens too.

If you want to know more there are numerous websites that discuss the gardens. Here's one that has a map: http://www.amishcountry.org/things-to-do/quilt-gardens

We went last year to the quilt show in Shipshewana and it was fantastic. Next time we go we are adding a day as we did not get to shop the little stores in town. We went to the quilt show two days and it was the best show I have been to. We headed home via the quilt garden and barns tour on a Sunday and it was fantastic, no traffic so we could view at our own pace. Any one interested in the quilt show it is toward the end of June and well worth the trip.
