Unfortunately, they didn't offer the special bus thing last year from the Park 'n Rides, and I don't know if they will this year, given the economic situation. It really made it convenient, though, because you didn't have to pay downtown parking fees, and you didn't have to fight the traffic, either.

You are right. I forgot we did drive in and park across the street this past year. My cousin doesn't live far so we left early and drove in around 9:30 and just had to wait till they openned the doors. We did miss the Park N' Ride, that was so convenient all the past years.

We probably saw each other, because the group I was with arrived about 9:15, and they do NOT open the doors until 10:00. I met a group of Italian quilters who had been to Vermont and Kentucky and were headed to California after Houston. I went back, but still didn't get to see everything or take any classes. This year, for sure! We need to start a thread for those who will be here and maybe have lunch. We could decide on somewhere and some time to meet (like by a certain gate, or by the main Information Booth.

Wait a minute - let me get this clear. A few years ago when we went, there were shuttles at just about every hotel that would take us to the show, and then bring us back - won't they have those anymore??? Then how do we manuever around?? I loved Houston. and was hoping that we could make the trip - but alot depends on convenience.

While in Houston for the Quilt Show navigation from your Downtown Hotel is as easy as calling a cab. The rate from Downtown Hotels to the George R Brown Convention Center is a flat rate of $6.00 if paid in cash. 4 people can ride for the $6.00 so it is quite affordable. Of Course a plug here for my own company --- Liberty Cab . LOL

I love the idea of everyone trying to meet up for dinner or lunch.

The various hotels do have shuttles. The shuttles I was talking about are the Metro buses that picked us up at various Park-n-Rides around town. That's what they didn't have last year, because of the cost. I'm assuming that won't have changed for this year, since our last mayor, Bill White, left the city pretty strapped. And now he wants to be governor of Texas and do the same for the state as he did for Houston. :( It was really nice to be able to drive to a Park-n-Ride near home, park, and leave the driving to them (and avoid the parking fees). The Park-n-Ride didn't cost anything, and the bus only cost $3, if I remember right. It was good while it lasted.

I will be there if the good Lords willing and the creek don't rise. :-) I have an extra room reservation for the first 2 days (Thursday & Friday). I have to check which hotel but it is on the shows list of participating hotels so there is a shuttle to the show. If anyone is interested let me know. I will keep the reservation till 2 weeks before the show.
