The CDC as of yesterday is saying do not travel to China,Iran, Italy, Korea and caution about travel to Japan--but also say to check daily. They are also saying, especially for those age 50 yr or older with chronic health issues, to avoid events of large crowds and that the face masks available (unless you have access to the N95 healthcare workers special masks) really won't prevent infection, but if you are suspecting you are infected, wearing a mask may help those around you. Actually, they suggest that if you think you might be infected, do not go to ER or doctors, call instead and ask for them to send public health worker out to assess first.

Here's a good chart to look at about CoVid19. I found it thru the WHO website. It gives a bit of perspective and from their numbers the percentage of deaths is extremely low. Like most viruses, the bulk of the deaths are in people who have compromised immune systems.

I have registered for a workshop at the Spring Paducah Quilt Show in about 6 weeks. I'm really looking forward it and hope that the show doesn't end up cancelled due to all this hysteria over Covid19. They never cancelled because of a flu outbreak...

My niece works as an Emergency Room RN - she is amazed at the way people are reacting, and over stocking up supplies to create shortages. But since I visit a friend in a nursing home, have friends with small babies, and a friend who's husband is extremely ill with the last stages of Parkinson's - I do care about the up dates so I don't expose them from where I have been. People have mob mentality and you can't blame the media for them. We need to be informed with honest medical information. I don't want to be lied to, or the information white washed - I want honest medical information so I don't make friends and family sick.

It’s obvious why they would cancel for CoVid19. It’s not the same as the flu on several levels.

I'm in a Pacific NW Quilters group covering 5 states in the US. So far all the shows scheduled this month have been cancelled.
Empty Spools at Asilomar in California which is a national and international class venue has cancelled their 2 weeks of classes, according to Bonnie Hunter who was scheduled to teach. (I don't see anything on the site yet)

I'm not a fan of assumptions, but in this case, I'd assume any public gatherings have been canceled.

Several events have been cancelled in Colorado including the St. Patricks Day parade and governor is discouraging anyone from going to the high country to ski as a skier who had been in Italy brought to a couple of the ski areas.

There was to be a sit down dinner, haystack type event at the fire station here in Northern Indiana. It has been scheduled for a long time for this date. Sponsored by the group for disabilities it is a big fund raiser for the group.
Now they will only have a carry out line, cannot go in and eat.
I applaud the health dept for doing this. Just about 20 miles to the south and east, we have some cases.

Long time pancake breakfast in my area scheduled for 3/21 cancelled yesterday. Maine maple sunday is next weekend as it is maple syrup season, not sure if the local sugar houses will still hold open houses. Pretty much the majority of larger social gatherings are all cancelled in my state, heard of a few that are still going on, but not many. A friend and myself are planning to attend the MQX show in New Hampshire mid April, hopefully this will pass by then and life can resume and we get to admire some wonderful quilts.... Thank goodness we have quilting to enjoy in our homes while we wait for this to pass.

The GSQA quilt show in Slidell LA has been postponed to later this year.
