San Diego quilt shops?
#12
I'm going to be in San Diego in June...I will hit these while there...thanks for the info everyone. I have a question not related to the quilt shops...hoping someone can answer. Are there any 99 cent stores around there? I make hanging towels for my craftbooth...used to buy most of my towels there, but since my parents passed away a few years ago, have not gotten back to Ca. So I would like to stock up again if possible. Also, are there any casinos around there? Thanks for any info I can get.

I love Cozy Quilt shop it is probably the one I visit the most. Rosies is very large and has a big selection, another must see if you are into primitives and cival war is the country loft in La Mesa they also sell antiques really cute place....depending on where you are staying or how much time you have quilt in a day in San Marcos (north San Diego county) is good too. The Ramona Shop is the crazy nine patch.
Yes there are Indian casinos in several locations through out the county again. If you know The area you are staying in I can give you the names of the ones closest to where you will be. Pm me if you want.

This march there is a shop hop hosted by san diego crusin quilters ( crusinquilters.com ) this is a list of all the participating store with addresses it's a good starting point since we know that all of these stores are open. Sometimes when you google quilt shops old info comes up and you get to a store that no longer exists. This is by no means all of our shops and they are located from the tip of our north county, the east county and almost to the Mexican border but it looks like all the ones that were talked about are here.

Billie, you are a wealth of information...thank you so much! We will be staying at the Crown Plaza Hotel; Hotel Circle N. In Mission Valley. Know it? It has been about 40 years since I have been in San Diego...I am actually from about 30 miles east of L.A. (Diamond Bar). My brothers were in the Navy, so we would go there when they were in port, also had a cousin that lived there. I would imagine it has changed alot since I was last there. We (hubby & I) will be there for a military-type reunion. Thinking to stay a couple extra days to check out the sites. Thanks for any info you give.

VickieM,
I do not know that particular hotel but I am very familiar with hotel circle and mission valley. I have lived here most of my life my beautiful city has grown and changed a lot in 40 years. I hope you have time to stay a bit and do some exploring. Given your location and the where the quilt shops are I would recommend the ones in east county. That is Rosie's Calico Corner, The Country Loft, Cozy Quilt Shop, and Memory Lane Quilt Shop. If you are really up for a drive the Crazy9patch in Ramona.
If you can't go to all of them these are the ones I would recommend
Rosie's it's very large and well stocked with a big varriety and I like the way it is organized.
The next 2 are ver close I like them both for differnt reasons
2 country loft specializes in primitives it is really cute and fun to go through and I love the area old La Mesa it's located. From there it's a short walk or drive to La Mesa blvd where there a ton of antique, stores to explore. However if primitives are not your thing and your limited you might skip it
3. Cozy Quilt Shop (my Lqs and the one I visit the most) not a huge shop but she stocks it well. She does carry a lot of batiks but also other fabrics she has a HUGE selection of patterns and books most of them are thier own. They are precut friendly and tend to be organized in categories of strips, layer cakes, etc...... I love thier patterns and varriety of precut bundles I tend to have a hard time choosing just one. While her patterns are precut friendly they always give the yardage too. They also cary a nice selection of regular and specialty rulers again some they devolved themselves.
4 and 5 memory lane if you have gone to the others this is easily skipped and crazy9 patch is in Ramona and cute as a button but unless you are going to Ramona its a pretty long drive just for that.
If you want to you can combine visiting the casinos in the same day/ night as there are 3 large ones in the same basic direction. Viejas which is the furthest one out but the easiest to get to right off the I-8 freeway. There is one more even further east Golden Acorn but not worth it the drive in my opinion. Then there is Sycuan still easy to get to and only about 10-15 minutes from Cozy Quilt Shop. The last one in that area I would recommend is Barona in Lakeside little more difficult to get to on a really curvy road but probably my favorite. No real reason why I will go to any of them I just like Barona best. They all have web sites you can check out start with googling San Diego casinos. You will find several more but unless you are going to be in Poway, Encinitas, Carlsbad or Oceanside the ones I listed are the most convenient to you, even if you don't combind it with quilt shop day.
I hope this helps feel free to ask anything I love where I live and I will be happy to answer anything I can if I don't know I'll know how to find out.

Thank you Billi, I have printed all this out & have a few months in which to do research. Your info is invaluable. I hope we will be able to spend a couple extra days to have some fun. If so, maybe we can meet at one of the quiltshops. I won't know anything for a couple months yet. Would love to meet you, so I hope it works out...
