Just brilliant! Wonderful idea and composition. What are the 3 different cuts for the hexes K? And great how the detail gets more as your eye goes left to right.

Really beautiful work!!! I just got the books and ruler you recommended in the mail last week and have found what may be the perfect fabric in my stash. I just have to make sure I have enough to at least make a small wallhanging. You continue to inspire me to complete a OBW!!

My strips were 4 1/2", 3 1/2" and 2 1/2" and I got as close as I could to all the same size for the panels then just sliced the top section off to get them exactly the same size - if you look close you can see they're not true half hexes but the eye completes them. Width ways the panels are the same width with three, four and six hexes across. The large hexs are 8" across so 3 x 8 = 24, the middle ones are 6" so 4 x 6 =24 and the small are 4" so 6 x 4= 24. I wish I could say that this is due to careful advance calculation but in fact, it's a pure fluke (or alternatively, I'm a genius!! )

I made this up as I went along, with a vague idea of the three panels but not sure til I put the borders on if they'd remain individual or just within a framework. The quilting I think will be an invisible meander (probably light grey BL depending on how well it disappears on a practice square) SITD round the applique, and a stipple or pebble in lilac on the borders to really flatten them. Have to order more wadding first though!

And the increasing detail to the right effect - I'm so pleased ppl are noticing that effect as it's what I was aiming for! :-D

Re the wall space - I don't have room for it here in the cottage so it will be a 'for sale' piece on the web site once it's quilted. If it's still around next autumn, it will go in my exhibition then, if a show comes up in the interim where it would suit, I might enter it. :-D
