My father died of alzhimers on Dec.28, 2009. He didn't recocnize us. I have worked with alzheimers patients for 13 years as a caregiver and activities assistant. Your quilt is a physical representation of what is happening to their brain. I have seen some patients affraid to step on a black rug because they believe it is a hole in the floor. We have used that to keep a wander in the building during the winter months. There are others who can't make sense of what your saying unless there is no other noise in the room. I have taken care of a lady who I hadn't spoken to me ever until One time when I was dancing with her and I sang " you are my sunshine" to her and she started to sing with me. After we sat down I said to her "That was wonderful dancing and singing with you" she looked blank at me like she didn't know how to talk and didn't talk again. Don't take your fathers behavior personaly. It's the disease

Thanks for all of the touching stories and well wishes, they really mean a lot to me. Fortunately he has stabilized and actually getting better. I think with him interacting with the folks there has helped a lot. When he was by himself out in the woods at his house he had nobody to mingle with so he was really bad off. It is really amazing he looks 10 years younger and is doing so much better!
Anyway here is the top completed and ready to be sandwiched and quilted. I really like how this turned out so far. I just hope my FMQ Fleur Elise look really good in the Brandy wine Border.

I love the colors and quilt style. This reminds me of the quilts my grandma made for all of her grandchildren on her old Singer treadle machine. So comfortable because you know every stitch was sewn with love. She died of Alzheimer's also, hope your dad loves it.

Your quilt is gorgeous. I am so happy your PawPaw is doing so much better at that 4star facility. My mom had Alz. and passed away Nov. 2009. It is a very hard thing for everyone involved with a family member who has Alz. My father passed away in 2007 from cancer and I am thankful he didn't have to see Mom at her worst.
My first thought with the quilt washing...if you lived close enough...you should take charge of washing it, PawPaw might not get it back if the facility did the cleaning of it. However, you have confidence in that facility which is great.
