I am having to ask advice here from all you quilters. I have only reallly quilted in the ditch and never tackled a quilt on a machine. My Brother Innovis has quite a few quilt patterns, but Ifind it difficult to load the quilt on to the hoop.

My question is how to you mark your quilt to get a clear design to quilt. Please tell me as I am getting very near putting in the UFO´s

Elle - I don't mark mine, I prefer to do total freehand.
But I know alot of people like the blue markers which you erase with water spray. I am sure others have alternative ways of marking, but the blue water soluble pens are very popular.
You can also trace a design, then quilt on the trace paper and remove it after machining.
If you search "marking a quilt" there are quite alot of posts on it too.

    Thanks Katrine,

Well I am a long way from doing it free hand, yours is beautiful.

I am off to see what I can source on the web.

    Thanks for your advice.

Elle!!! So good to see you on the board again. I have missed you!!!
Lately I have been practicing a lot with free hand quilting. I first found this site on you tube and it is great. She is a good teacher and all the lessons are free.

If I want to do a specific design I draw it out on paper first. Outline it with black marker then make several copies of the design. I then paste it on the quilt with masking tape or painters tape. Then I sew directly through the paper, over the design, following the lines as I go. DO NOT SEW OVER THE TAPE.
I hope this makes sense. It works for me.
Will write you soon, miss talking to you.

Hi Penny, You can skype me, I know you have that facility and I have just got it. Skype name is Eleanor19391 or look for Elle M Smith. Connect with me and then later on we can talk. Don´t know what time zone you are in though but I can go on there soon (I have just had a shower you do not want to see this vision LOL) and we can see each other and chat.
