I made a couple after you posted the pattern the first time, fast and fairly easy. The next day I tried it on a 4 month old and it was too tight around the neck. So, for newborns, the pattern as posted would be great!!

I modified the part around the neck to make it bigger. The Mom said it was very cute and she loved it. I also made one from a single layer of soft fleece for the top part, (I cut it out with pinking shears) and it's stretches so can fit multiple sizes of necks.

That is good to know about the neck. I used my 5 year old daughter for my model in the last shot on that tutorial and it went around her neck just fine. I guess she must have a small neck because I never thought about if it would be too tight around another kid's neck. My biggest concern was that it would be too big for a baby if it fit around a 5 year-old's neck.

Glad the pattern worked for you and I like your modifications!

Maybe it had something to do with the positioning of the velcro, anyway I was shocked that it was too tight, I tried it on a second baby a few days later and it was too tight too. But it fits perfectly on my Cabbage patch doll so I can use that as a display!! LOL When I find my camera I'll take a picture of them.

Wow. It might be the seam allowance too. Glad you modified it. I don't have a baby to try mine out on. Kinda glad I don't... I am so over the baby stage!

When I used to make bibs out of small hand towels. I would put a ribbing around the necline and then I sewed on a 2-3" long velcro piece so you could adjust the neckband size when you used it on a baby or child. You just adjusted where you closed together the velcro. It worked great.
