The back and front are sewed together with the batting. Trimming the batting very close to the stitching, I left the center open and then pulled the backing and the batting through that. After it was smoothed, the points pushed out and pressed, I appliqued the center, then finished the quilting. This is a clumsy explanation and I am sure someone can give you a more thorough explanation.

Kay, it won't be like the instructor's, or the other students', or like the pattern that was handed out. I really like it this way and I am sticking to it. (BTW, I have had some "mistakes" that are real messes).
