Same for my grandson--it's sensory issues. He loves the weighted blanket I made for him. I used the plastic pellets, not that they were easy as they bend to bounce away. Find a way to corral those if you are making one. I think I bought them at either JoAnne's or Hobby Lobby as they can also be used in weighted toys (dolls, bears, etc) It took several bags to get the correct weight as it's supposed to be weighted according to the weight of the person using it. I'd stay away from rice or beans as they might collect moisture and not smell so good in days to come. Frankly I don't care for even the rice bags used for aches as they tend to have an odor just as they are.

I use the poly pellets , these are great for the kids that have a disorder , can't remember the name of the illness , Not hard to make I. I sew around 3 sides of my front & back fabric , Front sides together , turn right side out, Then I sew up the quilt at 4-5" intervals until all the seams up & down are finished . I add my pellets depending on the child or persons weight & put a fist of stuffing on top . I do that all the way across the quilt ,then sew from side to side . Row #1 done . Continue until it is the length you want it .The kids that can't stand loud noises , throw themselves on the floor & bang their heads ect. That is the the health issue I'm talking about , I also make the ones that go around their shoulders so they can sit & watch TV.

While I am sure the quilt was not an easy task, the smile makes it a much loved gift.

The little girl is adorable enjoying the fruits of your labor. I don't know what weighted quilts are, but yours turned out very nice.
