Originally it wasn't there, but when I laid it out, it ruined the square effect, since matching fabrics were next to each other. So it looked like I had a row of rectangles which I wasn't crazy about.

That's beautiful Lucy - the centre strip was inspired! It's turned it into a work of art, the movement through the quilt is just fantastic, and the more you look at it the more you see. I went back and saw the heart that crkathleen mentioned, then I saw 3 hearts nesting into each other. And quilting in red, I have to be brave enough to try a contrasting thread one day when my FMQ is better! Yours is fabulous! :D

    Great idea. Love it.

Anyone else 'see' the suggestion of a shimmery heart shape in this quilt? I was leaning back from the computer, took my eyes off the monitor and looked back again and saw it. I think it's because of the mirror effect and the red squares that form the 'valley' of the heart.

    Thank you

This is actually one of my first FMQ attempts. I just got the Flynn Quilting Frames and it makes my FMQ quilting going from  to  this is easy to  . I don't know how well you can see it, but I used a different pattern on the squares. It's a bigger loop-y pattern then what I did with the white.

I'm so happy with how this one came out.

Thank you all for your kind words

Oh, and another cool thing about this quilt. I BARELY PINNED! Everything except for 2 seams nested. That I was really proud of.
