Its hand embroidered around the outside of the needle turn. I just bought DMC floss I have used Week’s hand dyed on other project and I love it but it’s really expensive and i will need a lot by this time I’m done with this quilt.

Patti, I have bought the little 2 oz. bottles of craft acrylics & a bottle of FABRIC MEDUIM. The directions say to mix 2/3 paint with 1/3 medium, but I do 50/50. I really don't want stiff fabric. I thin it down just a tad bit, too. Then when it's all good & dry, I heat set it.

Thanks for the info Kathy...I bet I can find some at Hobby Lobby. We are supposed to get another monsoon on the day that we are going to Memphis, but if its not too terrible, DH will stop for me to run in.

curious...you mix paint with medium, but then you mentioned, you "thin" it down a tad too.
How do you thin it? Or is it so simple I am missing the nose on my furry face?

Mousie, it's called textile medium or fabric medium, but it's found in the hobby/craft paint section(not house paint). It's to be mixed with acrylic decorative paint so the fabric stays soft when it's painted & dry. The hand of the fabric is still changed, but not as much as if you didn't mix the paint with the fabric medium. Kinda like the difference between your furry softness & your whiskers. I just add a little bit of water to thin it down as acrylic paints are water-based.

Lace, are your borders 1.5" finished?
So, then you cut them 2.25?

As many of yo know by now, I have begun re-making my AOTH. Here is my "new" Block 8. It's hand done, hand embroidered & I like it way more than I did the first go-round.

OK, Lesley, why is my embroidery so skinny? I used 2 strands of DMC #973. Should I use 3 strands instead?

I think you THINK it's skinny because so many of you are using RD thread, which is thicker. Plus it is close to your applique, so tucks itself in beside it, and your coloured background is fairly light, so not a lot of contrast with your thread. It will look a whole lot different when you are sewing on your black. I only use two strands, and it really notices on the dark colours.
