Not sure why this is sideways, but here is my version of the tote. I love it! The pattern is easy to do as long as you read before each step. I found I lightened up on my presser foot where I was sewing through multiple layers. I also hand sewed the binding after the initial attaching by machine.

I also hand stitched the binding on the backpacks. There was so much bulk it was difficult to get the needle to cooperate and sew a straight line. I did not like the wavy stitching, so did it by hand. (On the inside)... :-)

love it and have the pattern, and I really appreciate your honest eval about the difficulty. I've been rather afraid to make it cause I'm not a great bag maker, but think I may give it a try . I have an upholstery machine (big industrial, straight stitch only) and wonder if the final binding (which is where I shuddered about doing) would make this easier?

Short timer, your industrial machine should have no problem sewing on the final binding. The harder step is putting the binding on. Once it’s on, it’s easier to turn it and sew it down. You just have to squish down everything out of your way and take your time working around the bag. Annie is a big advocate of sewing with a stiletto and you really do need one to turn that binding and get it in the right place for stitching. If you don’t have a stiletto, you can use a seam ripper to push.
