I have another question please...when you do these as candle mats, do you use the heat resistant batting that is for pot holders ?

I've made several and I use a dresden template and cut a circle from an object I find in my house...dvd works fine. You can cut a circle the diameter of the circle just below the blades for the back. I'd love any other suggestions tho

When I made them, I made the back one solid piece of muslin....no hole cut in it at all...just put the bat on
bottom, backing right side up next and then top piece right side down, sewed around, left an opening...turned,
sewed circle in middle, then sewed in a quarter of an inch on each petal .
