Otis -- I did mine freehand, but I've just discovered there's a ruler to help you with it. This video demonstrates the "path" to create the "terry twist".

Yeah, that was the hardest part of this quilt!! I went to the NWQuilt expo in Portland and stopped at Fabric Depot. We went thru EVERY bolt of fabric there. Finally decided on this one and put a solid blue in between to separate the colors. I'm pleased with the results!!!
