    Default Another panel done

A sewing group member showed me a quilt using this pinwheel block. I started making it up and it was too busy for me so I decided to try and calm it done by inserting a panel. I like it better now and got to get another panel done. This was another of those change in midstream ideas-lol Our sew group meets tomorrow so I will turn it in to be quilted for another veteran. #43

You did it again...worked your magic on this panel to make it over the top amazing! That is a wonderful block to use up your scraps! I love the secondary pinwheel design that forms.
Does the block have a name? I want to make a baby quilt using up scraps and this block would be perfect. What width strip did you use with the snowballed corners that make up the pinwheel? Thanks for sharing Toogie....#43 and counting..way to go!!!!!

If the block has a name I don’t know it. I went from a picture, but here is what I cut. The center unit of strips are different widths of scraps that I squared up to 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches. (Make sure you have at least 5 inch length of scrap strip to square up straight)
There is a snowball strip on top and bottom of strip unit. The outer strip is cut 2.5 x 8.5 and the snowball is a 2.5 square. All snowballs are sewn in the same direction. I place it on one end of strip and sewed from top left down to bottom right. I guess you could sew either way as long as you snowball ALL the same. That’s your block.when 4 blocks are sewn together it forms a center pinwheel with a partial one, or 1/4 of a pinwheel, in each corner. Be sure to share with us if you make one. The picture my friend sent me had all the long outer snowball strip in black w white dots or designs. The squares for pinwheels were different colors but I didn’t like that bc they did not pop or show up well. The multi strip units were mostly each made with the same color shading. Like one unit might be shades of pink scraps with the black& white strip and colored snowball. That was pretty except for the pinwheels. They were lost in all the scraps. A suggestion to you would be make all your pinwheels or 2 1/2 in squares the same color and a good contrasting color. Other than that, just have fun!

Thank you Toogie for the block tutorial. I agree the snowball squares should be the same color in order to have the pinwheels pop. Looking forward to seeing more of your amazing veteran quilts.
